Left 4 Dead 2 Ban Appeal

In relation to this thread from earlier this week, Valve have appealed against Australia's OFLC decision to not classify the game.
By doing this, the game has essentially been banned down under -- although it's not as if the game is simply too violent for an adults-only type rating. The highest rating the OFLC can hand out is a 15+ and, unfortunately, they decided the "unrelenting violence," "graphic depictions of blood and gore," and "frequent and intense depictions of violence" in L4D2 wasn't appropriate for 15 year olds. According to the OFLC's report, a minority wanted the game to be issued the same rating that the original Left 4 Dead received, "an MA 15+ classification with the customer advice of strong violence."

Tiffany Steckler, a spokesperson for publisher EA, spoke with GameSpot Australia (via GamePolitics) and expressed the company's outrage over the OFLC's decision. "It?s funny that a place like Australia, which has come up with some pretty violent material in the past with something like Mad Max, can effectively ban video games for the same reason," she said. "EA believes that adults should have the right to make their own choices when it comes to the content they consume."

With the appeal submitted, it shouldn't be too long before we hear the result. Stay with Total Valve for the latest on this story.

They are hopefully trying to make the c*nt that rules the OFLC board to re-think refusing any GAME (not movie, movies get MA15+ unless they are porn or overly exessively violent like horror movies or the movie "shoot em up") that would otherwise be rated R18.

New zealand has a different system and they have R18 rated games there so I might get my brother to pick me up a copy over there next time we go back.

OMG i m realy sick of these rating and violent crap. No one even looks at these rating stuff, a 9 year old can simply go into eny store and buy what ever game he likes whitout beaing ask for ID. I have played games my hole life not ones did i had an idea of
"i want to kill some ppl right now". So in my opinion they schould cut the crap.

Im someone who has grown up with older people so I tend to take their side. Another disadvantage with giving games an MA15+ rating is MA15 is only a recommendation, Kids can still play them as long as their parents are "accompaning them". Its stupid.

Yeah but parents are stupid. With R18 at least they will think about it. (and we dont get banned/watered down games). I might pick it up when I go to the U.S or NZ.

Ummm, usually parents are not that smart and buy kids games. I hear like kids who sometimes sound like their 9 over Call of duty:WaW and l4d.

Parents can easily go out there and buy these games for them. Many parents usually don't care if their kids are 14+.

^ I am aware of that. I was more reffering to the younger kids, say 9-13. I am 15, so no games are off limits to PURCHASE for me.
