Bad news for those looking to make the switch from the normal PSP to the PSPgo. Sony has scrapped its plans to create a conversion tool that would allow the consumer to transfer their previously bought UMD titles into a format capable of being played on the digital only PSPgo.
In related news, Sony has announced a price drop of the PSP-3000 model for the Japanese market. The PSP-3000 plays the UMD format games and will continue to remain on the market after Go's release. Priced now at 16,800 yen (roughly $185 USD), the 3000 model finds itself at almost $100 (USD) less than the suggested retail price of $250 (USD) for the PSPgo. In North America, the PSP-3000 is just $169, making the gap between the 3000 and the Go all the more noticeable.
Today -- less than a week from the PSPgo's launch -- Sony has come back with its findings, and they're not good.
"We were evaluating a UMD conversion program but due to legal and technical reasons we will not be offering the program at this time," a Sony representative told IGN.
