FPSadmin - Modern Warfare 2 PC info - From IW Event in LA

This info has been brought up in a couple of different threads in our forum, but I truly appreciate Rudedog of FPSadmin for what he did for the PC gamers out there at the recent MW2 event, so this info deserves its own news post to be discussed.

I do believe he struck the nail on the head with some of this info. Hopefully, not all of it is as extreme as some of are thinking, but I guess we will wait and see.
Below is information from a very quick interview with Infinity Ward's Jason West. It should be noted that this was a 100% console only event, and Jason was kind enough to sit down and talk PC shop. He and the rest of the IW staff where very busy with interviews from large media sites.

The big questions are Mod tools, dedicated server bits as well as Linux support.

    - They are all on the list however as of right now it looks like they will not be in the box or be released on day 1.

How well will IW support the PC side of the game, once released

    - They are committed to the PC side of the game and will support it as IW has supported their past titles.

    - Their co-op special forces mode will be invite only, no dedicated servers for co-op

    - They are currently looking very closely at steam for match making via online play

    - They will be using the same type of master servers as Modern Warfare. They are not using GFW

    - There will be DLC however it's up to their parent company in regards to how DLC will be distributed (paid, delayed, or sponsored) - nothing has been decieded yet but they are looking to support MW2 for a very long time via DLC

    About admin features

    - The bad news is there will be a lot of console type features, which Jason did not go into detail. There was not much in regards to dedicated server type features. He did say "some cool features" but was more or less talking about console side of the game and what they would port over to the PC<!--more-->

I asked the silent treatment towards the PC side of this game.

    - I was told it was because they are all hands on deck to get the console game into Microsoft Xbox 360 certification. Once that is done, they will be working on the PC side. It sounded like there was not much done as of yet.... hello the game going to be released soon.

Based on the answer I got above, I asked about the release date for the PC version.

    - I was told as of today, it's on schedule and they don't see a delay.

Will there be a console or PC demo/beta

    - No and No. Neither version will have any type of demo. Jason said, they feel their customers want them to spend all their time on the game and not distracted by a demo/beta

That's about it. I had about 5-8 minutes with Jason as he was very very busy. I also tried to make the round and talk to all the staff manning the console stations. Over and over I was told this was a console only event and they had no comment in regards to anything PC.

I know I'm missing something, and will try and update this post in the am before I jump on my plane. Once airborne, I'll be out of service all day until around 6PM EST.

    Images can be found here
    Videos can be found here
    - Note more images and video's are being uploaded. I'm on a very slow connection. Update just got home, I have a few, nothing special video's I'll start uploading after I eat dinner with the family. - sorry for the delay.

Thank you Rudedog for being a voice for the PC crowd and for pushing your way to get an interview. :salute:

I know another major game release that did not include a dedicated server at release...anyone heard of MoH: Airborne?

Ahhhh airborne, the Cod4 killer that never was.

Really this game is half done, the MP interface (server browser and menu ) is already done all that really needs to be imported for the PC is SP and Multiplayer content which really shouldnt take them that long. Since its the same engine as Cod4 things hopefully should go pretty quickly.

Dedi server files werent out untill the first cod4 patch i belive, it should be no different here, it also might be a good test of Iw's new streaming patching system.

If its lacking this kind of support for PC, its going to flop for the PC market. Oh well, don't care, looking forward to other FPS coming out from better companies, with real PC support.

Relax, they'll support the PC but it's pretty obvious that the flagship version is the Xbox.

Thats a bit harsh, even I'm starting to get pissed off at IW even though a week ago I was trying to defend them, but I dont think it will flop. There are probably still a lot of people who dont follow the games on forums so there wont be that much support for the boycott except from forums and the like. Sadly, its a part of the COD franchise, so people will still flock to it like a new zealanders sex toy (a sheep to all non-australians/new zealanders)

According to someone who works at IW:

"I think his comment was misunderstood a bit - we're not just starting to compile and test the PC version. It's existed alongside the PS3 and 360 versions the entire project. He just meant the console versions are our focus right this moment because they have a longer lead time than the PC version does - they have to be perfect sooner."

Hey everyone! long time no post

I hope I did "misunderstood" and they are correct. Unfortunetly the facts are we have not had any information, screen shots, in game video or anything else related to PC as of today. I think the only thing we have is that the PC will not be getting any special editions. Other then my interview with Jason West (who was very busy at the event and I appreciate his time) we (PC customers) have nothing.

At least during the last Call of Duty event at IW, which was held about four months before the game shipped, we saw and heard from the staff regarding the PC side of the game. It was a console + PC event separated by a day. While we could not do a hands on, because of some print media exclusives, we still saw and heard a lot from the guys and gals working on the title.

I only hope its true that they are further along with the PC game then what they have shown us. I guess we'll have to let the shipped game and what's in the box upon release, speak for itself. - Which scares the crap out of me.

This title wont be a flop because of the name, its too huge. If it is bad, it will be the next one that wont get out the gate as fast.

its too bad IW didnt put much effort into this game. its sad these companies see that they will sell games because of thier game's name and not it's content. prolly not buying this.

^actually they have put an effort in. They put an effort to keep all those console retards that probably spammed the cod4& MW2 forums with stupid requests happy. well they probably have put an effort, new weapons, slightly better graphics, but just because they put in an effort doesnt mean it wont feel generic

$60 for a game without a demo. Really IW? :|:

I'm pretty disappointed. I'm not going to buy a game that the devs refuse to provide a demo for because "we'll be distracted by it" and still charge more than the normal price for PC games. Are they asking for it to be pirated?

You know, it's kind of funny how people always talk about a game negatively and then they resort to pirating it. How is it that a game is not good enough for you to buy, or in this case if they're failing to put the time into it, yet it's good enough to pirate it? Are you then going to play it hours upon hours and say yep, glad I never bought this? If a game is too high in price like what Activision is doing, or if ends up sucking b/c even a crack addict can't keep with all of the bells and whistles going off, don't support it at all by buying or playing it.

I'm not saying you were going to specifically be stealing it, but I just find it kind of an oxymoron when people say a game's not going to be very good so they'll pirate it...
