Star Trek fans, Unite! Cryptic Studios, in conjunction with Atari Games, announced today the start of their long awaited closed beta test for the upcoming MMORPG, Star Trek Online. By long awaited, I mean long awaited. Since the start of development by Perpetual Entertainment some five years ago, fans of the pointy ears from around the world have awaited this day. While the game has undergone serious revision (and a change in development house) since then, the fanbase remains. Here is an excerpt from the press release:
The Star Trek Online team is happy to announce we’re taking applications for the Star Trek Online closed beta, which will occur later this year!
As we proceed with testing the game, we’re relying on you, our fans, to help us work out kinks, squash bugs and create the best Star Trek experience we can. To apply for the beta, please visit this web form and answer the questions provided. We’ll randomly select from that group as we ramp up toward open beta.
We’re very happy to have all of you with us as we take this bold step forward. We can’t wait to see you in game.
Cryptic is also offering a way to buy yourself into the beta, through the purchase of a Champions: Online subscription, for the truly desperate, but for everybody else, here is the beta application link: http://startrekonline.com/node/365As we proceed with testing the game, we’re relying on you, our fans, to help us work out kinks, squash bugs and create the best Star Trek experience we can.
