  • US Intervention - Intelligence Update on Enemy Hideout

The U.S. Intervention mod is here with an update on the ongoing development of their next release. Today, they've got a new map to show off. Check it out:

Hello again for another update of your favorite Persian gulf war modification. So what’s the reason for us not posting an update within the past four weeks? Truth is, we don’t really have that many things to show off anymore. There are some awesome things in progress, but at this state of development, we can not yet show it to the public.

To give you guys a proof of life, we wanted to show you a new update on the map Ar Rafidiyah Province, which has been created by former XWW2 dev TrueSpirit. The cool thing about this map is that you can enter every single buildingt. If you prefer to play with bots, this map is also nice for you, as the bots are able to enter the buildings as well. No more bot pwnage from a safe room, they will come after you (or support you with meds and ammo so you can keep on pwning the enemy bots)!

Last but not least, we were able to give the map a realistic looking light setting. But enough, let the pictures speak. Quick note: The pictures were all taken in the BF2 Editor, so don’t complain about small graphical issues or editor objects such as the white cube used to generate environment maps.
You can find out more about the US Intervention mod and see more pictures of the map over at their website.

I think that screenshot is from the bfeditor. You place white squares around the map to generate Envmaps (Environment maps). These create the reflection textures for water, helicopter glass ect. Bf2 does not generate true reflections in realtime, but rather create the illusion through textures to reduce performance hit.

The white square will take a snapshot of the surrounding buildings, trees, etc. 360 degrees, and put it into a texture.
