Re: MW2 - To Buy, or Not To Buy?

You have to think how enjoyable the game will be and how much you'll play it.

I dont buy many 360 games because of the price. They have to either be reduced or they have to be special games for me to buy them on the release.

You can usually buy almost two PC games for the price of a console game, and i use my PC more than my XBOX.

I think it's pretty ****ty that they're not offering a prestige edition for the PC but I know i'm going to play MW2 alot, so i ask myself, is the extra price enough to put me off the game and i answer. No.

I love Call of Duty, always have, always will. So unless MW2 does a Quake Wars or a Fuel of Frontlines then, I will continue to buy.

Why should I pay more money to play on a platform that IW is just going to say "F*** OFF, YOU BOUGHT IT ON PC" when problems with it arise? 402's professionalism at it's finest.

Re: MW2 - To Buy, or Not To Buy?

Thanks for the responses so far peoples. I really appreciate it. I still haven't made up my mind just yet.

Thanks for your post Chief82, that post spoke to me the most so far and I believe you get me on this issue.

On one hand, I'm not sure if I'm going to enjoy MW2 as much as everyone else b/c the insanity of CoD4 can get old sometimes IMO...partly my fault for playing on servers larger than 8v8 basically. So I could get MW2 and probably actually enjoy it IF I play on smaller servers. But I can't handle playing the big servers anymore where I die more from nades, air strikes, and chopper attacks than bullets... Not to mention, I like using rifles, not just snipers, and in CoD4, the only thing that came close to quenching my thirst was the G3.

On the other hand, I have every PC CoD and I love the series. The SP is always excellent albeit short. The MP is always fun also, but the RnG seems to be getting old. Once again, smaller servers come in, but there is another point. I do not have the time to be a dedicated clan member, but I think that's what I'm lacking. I can't seem to find a shooter that speaks to me right now. ArmA was too much for me, but I need more than the dumbed down RnG in public play for CoDs. SO, maybe I just need to join a clan so I can get in some strategic/competitive play again as that is where my ginormous love for the CoD series became even larger.

On the other hand...three hands, I really do like being the site director here and whilst it's not my day job, I take it seriously and I feel that I'm not really going to be able to relate or post news in accordance with the community's opinions if I'm not involved in the game.

To those about the price increase/boycott, yes, I realize it's only $10 extra dollars. I have enough to pay for it, it's not a spoiled thing. I do work hard for my money, bills to pay, etc, and that's somewhat the point. I'm not just going to throw my money at everything. But the main reason of the boycott is not the measly $10, but the point that it was raised for what reasons beyond them just wanting more money? No taxation without representation. Where are the glorious new extras for the PC that justify that price raise? They're using the same engine, a lot of the same weapons, I mean, in CoD4, they had to create all of these things from scratch. Not to mention, that this would set a precedent for future games. So if you buy say 10 games a year, and all other producers see they can raise the price, you're not just paying this $10 extra dollars, but an extra $100 a year for the same games. Activision's CEO has said himself, he'd like to charge even more than the $59.99 price tag for all platforms. This game is a testing ground for future price hikes, not just to get an extra $10 per game out of PC gamers.

Meh, said I wouldn't buy it unless I got ti for around $40 after they raised the price to send a message for future price drops, found the Wal-Mart deal and all was peachy. What amazes me is that they can justify $60 price tags on a console where you have to pay for network access and downloadable content, one would assume that it would be cheaper or have free downloadable content.

Which is around 83 US. So when you think that 49.95 US is an expensive price, remember that some people spend a lot more for exactly the same product. Food for thought

I will most likely purchase this, but I will be looking to Walmart, because It always seems cheaper to purchase a game there

The PC side is a secondary side. We don't get anything extra, unless you count a browser to play on servers close to you extra. Which we pay for btw.

Here is my take on it; if the game is priced at that $60 spot, you boycott it. If you can find it for regular price or less, then you get it.

All these people getting it no matter what is why a boycott doesnt work and the features and support in games continue to go downhill.

I completely understand everything you have posted so far. I am a co-leader of a clan that mostly runs COD4 and a bit of COD5 right now. Every piece of news that comes out about COD4.2 (MW2), just makes me madder.

Whether it is the price, the dual deagles, the woooo AC-130 perk already available in a mod, the singleplayer levels that seem more like James Bond than Call of Duty....this is the least interested I have ever been in a Call of Duty game.

Yet, my clannies are likely going to buy it. Many of them never played COD until COD4 and many of them are the modern warfare sorts who believe the game is somehow made better by the bullet hose recoil-less automatic-rifles (thus why we have a larger COD4 than COD5 population). So I too wonder if I need to buy it just so I can run it for the clan. I really really don't want to give any money to that evil giant Acti-Blizz (the new EA on the block), but I have my duties.

So. If you would like to swing by you can see what someone in your position has tried to do to COD4. We now run two modded servers with Openwarfare configurations. One is a realism setup with slower running by weapon weight, no perks, more weapon sway, more recoil. The other is fairly standard but with anti-camper, spawn protection, no hit indicators, banned martyrdom and last stand, lowered helicopter health, etc.... Both run some custom maps that include reskins of old COD:UO and COD2 classics.

Both servers are only 24 players max and it tends to be mostly clan members on anyway.

Check us out at http://www.b2zclan.com/news.php if you would like to get IPs and see what we do (security issues have forced our forums to be linked to another site).

I think for me the purchase will come down to....how good the mod tools are so I can start running Open warfare as quickly as possible and if IW supports PC at all. If both of those happen from the early forum reviews of the game, I will pick it up. If not....my clan may just have to find someone more enthusiastic about the new direction of the COD series.

Re: MW2 - To Buy, or Not To Buy?

I don't know about you but I'll be getting MW2 (for PC) at the same price as any other PC game...

                Modern Warfare 2 - £29

I barely ever buy games from GAME or Gamestop... I've never bought a game off Play.com as Gameplay.co.uk has always been good for me :) I'm not sure if there is an equivalent for the USA/Canada though...

I just checked on Play.com and noticed MW2 is listed as £35

Looks like Gameplay.com should be getting more sales then Play.com if people are smart...

Re: MW2 - To Buy, or Not To Buy?

MW2 has the ordinary price here in Sweden too... so price isn't an issue for me.

Personally they raised the PC price in the US because they want to get people playing on the consoles, easier for them to make money that way from DLC and other random crap. Custom content doesn't make IW and Activision any richer.

I'm not getting it at that price!!! I just hope that Operation Flashpoint 2 keeps me happy enough that I won't break down and get it.

                      That's the wrong damned answer.:shakehead:
If the game isn't worth the money to you, don't buy it or play it. You don't get to have your cake and eat it, too.
You're part of what's wrong with PC gaming at present, and why developers are giving up on us.

You're only justifying the price increase.
In order to make up for projected piracy numbers, they're charging people who aren't scrote sacs more to make the same profit.
You aren't Robin Hood, you're just a thieving hypocrite. If the game really wasn't worth your money, then you wouldn't play it at all. Stealing it isn't a statement. Try and church it up all you want, and argue semantics. The intent is still the same. You want to benefit from someone else's hard work without compensating them for it. That makes you scum in my eyes. And I know I'm not alone.

I'm buying MW2 mainly for the single player, I want to see how the story folds out from COD4. I'll also play a little bit of MP. I don't mind paying $60 for the game but I sure would rather pay $50. (Yes I know you can get it for $49.82 at Walmart by preordering)

Misnomer, I hear you on your position. I've been playing CoDs since they were invented and maybe their new direction, since it is different than the past, might not be for me anymore. Your servers sound exactly like what I'd like to play on...gg I'm in America, grr lol.

There have been tons of good points on here, and some that seem to lack some thinking, but thank you for contributing nonetheless. Maybe I could wait and see the trailer tomorrow and if it's just another cluster**** of footage, maybe that's my answer that this game is just more nutz to be had? But at the same time, the PC is great in that you can have mods that can calm the game down. It's all about finding the servers that suit your play. I'm still open on my decision on this, but this is definitely some good discussion on here, and I'm glad to hear other gamers' views on this matter.

I am American too. I got involved with a British clan a while back and I find that the wonderful community has kept me from finding a place where I don't add 100 to my ping simply because of an ocean. Still, if you don't mind occasionally losing a quick draw fight because the server thinks you never fired (slowed gameplay helps with that a bit)...it is still worth a look if you can make your time zone line up over a weekend or so (3pm eastern is peak on Euro servers.)
