402 Speaks About the No MP Beta Rumors for MW2

Well, fourzerotwo (IW's Community Manager) has a response to the no MP beta rumors that were discussed earlier. Some of it seems valid, some of it seems like perfume sprayed on manure. As some other sites have posted, many think IW is behind schedule due to fourzerotwo canceling an appearance at a convention, and, fourzerotwo admitted the beta is a time issue. His response to this situation about the MP beta can be read below:
I wanted to clarify the supposed “news” coming out of GameCom this morning regarding no MW2 Beta.

First, nothing has technically changed by this news. As I’ve told you many times in the past, expect no Public Beta unless we announce otherwise. That is still the case. We would never say something as definitive as “No Beta Ever!” as that’s simply not how we work. We’ll do an internal beta, if we feel a public one is needed, we’ll explore that route as well.

It is true that we have not announced a Public Beta for MW2, and that remains true unless I announce otherwise.

However, while no Public Beta is currently announced we do plan on running an extensive Closed Beta among Infinity Ward, Activision, and possibly 1st party partners worldwide. The internal beta will allow us all the benefits of a public beta test without the impact it takes on the time required to prep, distribute, & manage a public beta during this crucial time in development.

Remember, Multiplayer has been in development since Day 1 of working on Modern Warfare 2, and this is the essential run up to launch when we’re playing everyday, hammering away on it to make sure it’s as polished as can be by launch. As always, our internal QA team has daily multiplayer tests in addition to company-wide nightly MP tests we hold from the moment MP is in a running state throughout development.

Once the internal beta is completed, if for any reason we feel we didn’t receive the feedback, address the issues, or have the result we expect. We would consider pushing forward with a public one, however at this point only an internal Closed Beta is planned.

That said, any fears that no Public Beta will result in any quality loss in the final multiplayer game is completely unfounded; Multiplayer has always been and will always remain a major focus for the team at Infinity Ward and we would never ship a product we didn’t feel lived up to the high standards we hold ourselves to.

While we love public betas for all the obvious reasons, an internal Closed Beta allows us the extra freedom and flexibility to give the entire multiplayer a chance to be widely beta tested without requiring excess development time simply to prep the game for public release instead of an internal beta test which is ran on dev kits / test kits. That fact alone, allows us to have a smoother and faster process of iteration when addressing issues and pushing fixes out to beta participants.

This decision allows us to deliver a more polished experience, which in the end, is what we all want.

    Stay informed on Multiplayer

We’ll be filming plenty of Multiplayer videos for you to get a glimpse of new perks, features, killstreak rewards, and other additions you can look forward to in Modern Warfare 2’s Multiplayer. Keep an eye on our Twitter feed (@fourzerotwo) for when we post new videos and subscribe to the Official Infinity Ward YouTube channel.

In addition to the official multiplayer videos and features we release, we’ll be doing more and more multiplayer press from now until launch so you can get your fill of intel before jumping online day 1.

And as Jock Yitch over at BASHandSLASH pointed out:
The bit about delivering more MP videos is my favorite part. It's as though IW know that we can easily be distracted by flashing colors and explosion sounds enough not to ask about the whereabouts of the Beta. Geez, they know this community far too well.

I agree. Enjoy the big explosions...OoOo, pretty! I mean, ehem, yes, we will report more news when it is heard.

Explosions, Guns and Martyrdom, what else do they need to keep the kids off their back?

And really i do think IW is way behind schedule, 402 couldnt go to gamescam or whatever the hell it was due to them being so far behind.

A month delay or so really wouldnt shock me.

I dont know why they bothered making any statement at all. People will get mad, so? This statement will seem like back peddling to the community and something is being hidden. I posted in another area about how could a small closed beta be a "better" focus on the polishing on the game? I dont think it can.

Anyway, this will make more hype for the game for sure.

Which was the whole point, undoubtedly.

I'd still rather have a single player demo than a multiplayer beta.

Not really. External betas are always more effective then internal ones. This isn't even debatable. For 2 very obvious reasons:

1.) More sets of eyes do a better job of finding bugs.
2.) If you're on the outside looking in your much more critical.

Having said that releasing an external beta opens you up to a host of other concerns so I don't fault them for not doing so. IW have a proven track record of releasing a quality product so i think that they should get a longer leash then most. The sole reason that they aren't doing an external beta is because they fear it will hurt sales. Simple as that.

I see that too but an Issue I see is that people like to complain if there is something they don't like, even if its not really an issue. Then You get the BF2 fiasco's, making things unbalanced because people can't "pwn".

Thats true, but most people know when someone is crying and when there is a real problem.

When they beta tested Northern Strike for 2142 someone found that you can put a sentry droid in front of the goliath and actually stop it from moving. Devs never thought to put one in front of the huge vehicle.

FFOW wouldnt have been a disaster if they listened to their beta players.

There are whiners, you boot them from the beta and get the useful information.

Was there really a point to the first BETA besides an extensive DEMO since not a lot of folks were behind the Modern War aspect of a COD game. And we all know how that worked out.

And of course PC players didn't get to experience it anyway...so yea, ignorance is bliss. :|:

We wont know what bugs could be missed on the PC side. I remember all these bugs:

                      Sniper hit detection.
Bending forward or backword will prevent headshots
                      P90 sprint
                      No recoil skorpion
                      Full animation reload skorpion
                      AK47 attachment bugs
                      Black screen on alt+tab
Many map glitches on various maps

Those were just the ones off the top of my head that affected me.

In CoDWaW a lot of the same bugs were also in it and the beta was only a week long and a TON of bugs were discovered.

Dont forget the G3 Knife bug that they fixed, only they didnt.

I belive this may also have to do with IW's new patching streaming system, it allows them at any time to add fixes to the game whenever they want.

Well we see a whole lot of that going on. Alot of players base there kits on these exploits (Skorpion, M21 and P90). Red-dot AK47 can end up being worthless in a head to head because they do reduced damage. And there are alot of snipers using lean to avoid being killed.
