PS3 Slim Announced, 120 GB Receives Price Cut

Kazuo Hirai, Chariman of Sony Entertainment, has just announced that the PS3 Slim is indeed a reality and will be shipping the first week of September.

This new model will come equipped with 120 GB of memory, and is 33% smaller and 36% lighter. The cost given is $299.99 USD, and €299.99. As of tomorrow, that price will also be applied to the current 120 GB PS3.

Backwards compatibility, Sony, backwards compatibility. Also, is it just me, or does the PS3 slim look like it's made out of extremely flimsy plastic?

Really, the originals aren't made with the most durable plastic, just shiny plastic.

Sounds like good news for those who don't have a PS3 yet, and this puts Sony right back in the price competition with Microsoft's Xbox. With the 1080p, Blu-Ray player, game exclusives, no red button of death, it'd be very tempting to get a PS3 for those who don't have one yet. I get tons of fun out of mine.

This is actually pretty cool. i wouldnt think of getting one (atleast untill the price drops more) but this is still cool

Good call on increased hard drive space too :)

I'm not a fan of the matte black finish on it, but I'm sure it will grow eventually.

I prefer the look of my old one (I have on of the original 60GBs with PS2 and PS1 compatibility )

They probably made it matte b/c the gloss is a fingerprint and dust magnet. :shock: I still like my shiny old 80gb though.
