Only Two Modern Warfare 2 Map Packs Planned

It seems Infinity Ward won't be following the way of Treyarch in producing three map packs for Modern Warfare 2, but only two. This according to a report posted over on Shacknews detailing comments made by Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith. Listen up:

Though we've known for a while that two downloadable Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 map packs would hit Xbox 360 first before any other platform, it now appears that those two map packs could be the entirety of the shooter's downloadable content.

"We plan to launch two separate map packs for this title," Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith said of Modern Warfare 2's "online content" in a conference call, adding that over 8 million Call of Duty map pack downloads have been sold on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Said map packs are traditionally priced at 800 MS Points ($10) on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and usually hit PC a bit later on in the form of a free update. Infinity Ward, which is crafting Modern Warfare 2, released one map pack for the first Modern Warfare, while Treyarch has thus far produced three for the more recent Call of Duty: World at War.

Now that we know only two map packs are planned for Modern Warfare 2, as well as the raised price for the PC edition, are you more or less likely to purchase the game?

Not getting it until next summer when the price drops, bugs are fixed, and map packs out.

I will still be holding off. It's been known for a while now that this would only have two map packs, they released that info a couple months ago I think? But anyway, Treyarch has definitely owned the DLC war. Plus, both of these DLCs will be for Xbox 360 first...wow, way to marginalize the rest of your market.

MW2 has given me a bad taste in my mouth, luckily I have purged the taste. My pre-order has been canceled and I have moved on from MW2. Looking forward to CoD7. Treyarch, rough start, but they've proven them self to be quite good in the long run.

Well, now that they tell us the maps, i'm holding off till the "Game of the year edition" is released. That and usually, wal-mart has the hardended edition for cheap and no one buys it there. They still sell the halo 3 legendary edition for 70usd :awes

Lies! All we ever knew is the first two map packs for MW2 would be timed exclusives on 360 before they were released on other platforms (as stated in the 1st paragraph of the story). They never confirmed there would be only two however. Least that's what I remember. :|:

i started playing x3 terran conflict and i'll be probably doing that for about a year. by that time the price should drop;.

Well thats a matter of opinion as i enjoyed and played WaW for far longer than i did CoD4 but i still enjoyed both of them.

Hope so. I am choosing to remain positive with IW. saying that treyarch have won the war and are the only ones who can make a quality COD is a bit of a stretch (though I trust that WAW was really good too) IMO. I always thought the whole purpose of a game was to have fun not b!tch about the small things

Well thats a matter of opinion as i enjoyed and played WaW for far longer than i did CoD4 but i still enjoyed both of them.

I did enjoy WaW, but my clan as a whole did not. Our 28-slot WaW server stayed empty while our 20-slot CoD4 server was almost always hopping during the evenings PST.
I still play sometimes, and the clan(which has been together since about 2004 in one shape or form) has dropped the WaW server. We're only on the CoD4 server as a clan these days. It wasn't out of protest or any crap like that. We really tried to keep the server open, even though we were paying more money than it was worth. That was ultimately the problem. We were paying for a server that was never populated. So we pushed the slots back to CoD4..
I'm one of the latest additions to the clan, so I hold almost zero influence (except when it comes to news or technical PC stuff or admin advice or hardware advice). But if CoD:MW2 has requirements that are easily attainable form CoD4 specs my whole clan might shift to it. Of course, the price might be an issue. I doubt IW or Activision really care about 20-30 people, though. Or about the 10-20 people each we could influence. Or about the 10-20 people each of those people could influence....

I doubt IW or Activision really care about 20-30 people, though. Or about the 10-20 people each we could influence. Or about the 10-20 people each of those people could influence....

Or the 717 here who said they wouldn't buy either if the price stayed higher, along with hundreds/thousands of others across the net with the same view.
