US Intervention - Iraqis reinforced, Russian style

The US Intervention mod team is back today with another update, this time with a cool new vehicle that will be included in their next release. Check it out:
Hello again everyone. Today we are back with a new vehicle for you asset lovers out there. It actually has been modeled a few years ago and never made it ingame, but with 0.2 being our last public release, we thought it would be a waste to not finish it up. We are talking about the well-known BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle. We have had the BMD1 and BMD2 for a while but while the Iraqi forces never really had alot of those, they had hundrets of BMPs in their motorpool. Reason enough for us to finally put in some BMP-2’s.

If you want, you can get wet with it, because a very handy feature of it is that it is able to swim. Our variant will hold the driver’s position and 7 additional people, which gives us a total of 8 people. But don’t stay in there too long, because it’s not armored that good and can easily be taken out in two hits from an AT weapon of your choice. If it gets too hairy, deploy your six smoke grenades and back up. If you are more of a rambo-styled player, you can take out enemy tanks with your 30mm AP rounds and the tube-launched, wire-guided AT missiles. Either that or mow down some infantry with the coaxial 7.62mm PKT machine gun that holds 2,000 rounds. Enough words, let it rain some pictures.

Fun fact, we actually exported it twice: While petemonster modeled the original one, the updated one has more details added to the 3D mesh, as well as a higher resolution texture made by wolfi. At this point, we would like to thank jodonnell at the Forgotten Hope 2 Mod Team for his texturing tips. And that’s a wrap, we are done for this week. Watch out for the next update.
You can read more about the excellent US Intervention mod and see more screenshots over at their website.

They are pretty weak though compared to the Bradley etc. + fuel tank is in the back which would instantly cook anyone inside if it got hit.

the rust on the missile box looks too bright and the edges too sharp. it almost looks more like copper paint.

why are mods still being built for bf2?

That shows the current stats for players and servers that run through Gamespy services.

The player count is how many people around the world are currently playing the game in real time. It updates about every 10mins or more, so refreshing your browser a whole bunch won't change the numbers, you have to wait a bit.

If you were to take into account only server count, Crysis Wars is 92% less popular than BF2, and the Original Crysis is around 98% less popular, yet there are people who are modding for Crysis D:

                    panzer ghost is right!
...and i guess we modders are modding because modding is fun.
its good if there are 60 servers full of players. but its not important if you see what you have done. some people are collecting stamps

Ty, will take that into account when approaching final skin status :)

No, whoever said BF2 was dead is talking out of their ***.

That's kinda like saying Counter-Strike (the most played PC FPS) is dead and that's roughly twice as old as BF2.

US Intervention on the other hand isn't what I'd call 'populated'.

Popularity is not the main reason for mod creation anyway, some people just do it as a hobby/passion.

Mods like Project Reality are lucky to have a big following, speaking of... I hope PR MEC gets it's hands on this new toy.
