Activision apparently thought that the sales from these products were not significant enough to produce any meaningful profit so they removed it.

i think that it would cost allot more to produce these for pc. the xbox 360 and ps3 both have hugh community bases ( NOT SAYING PC DOESENT) but many pc gamers probably already have cod 1 (bonus for consoles).

IMO i can care less about pc not having a special edition. but im ****en pissed about paying 10 bucks more than i think i should

          1. Anybody who calls themselves a fan of the COD series allready has COD1.

          2. Who's going to pay 150 for some toys when Activision is allready getting massive heat for pushing the game up to 60 bucks.

PC gamers in general are not swayed by cheap toys or gimmicks to get them to buy a game, they just want the base game.

Wow, IW really wants to loose my business. They are really trying hard. Guess I'm gonna wait until the game hits $30 bones. Why is it that everyone is just treating PC gamers like the black death? Computers are getting cheaper and more powerful, do they want to force emulation to grow that fast?

Direct your anger at the people who are doing this, the Activison PR and Sales departments. IW has no control over pricing.

$60 for the PC version of CoDMW2 or any PC game is bad, and I think people really should be getting mad about it. Activision PR and Sales will get it in their heads that people are completely willing to spend $60 for every game they buy for PC. Other publishers will follow and we will all end up being screwed even more because of more people pirating PC games which will increase cost or lower profits prompting even more price increases or less developers and publishers willing to develop or publish PC games. The only way to really solve this is to lower the price to draw in more people.

Personally I am willing to tolerate $50+ shipping/tax for a PC game as long as it is universally accepted as a good game. $50 is very close to my limit of how much I am willing to pay for newly released games. I set myself a budget for buying games, gaming related stuff and computer hardware every 6-8 months, though it's usually for a whole year. Right now $60 for CoDMW2 for PC is cutting in on my budget for items I had planned to buy this year. This is not ok with me. I am seriously considering not buying the game until the price (without coupons or discount deals) has been reduced to $50 or less at release.

I guess they realized that console gamers are dumb and are willing to buy cheap Night Vision Goggles with a game. (that will most likely not work, considering normal NVGs are $1,000+)

Re: Modern Warfare 2 PC Not Getting Special Editions

I believe it's because the marketing department realizes consoles gaming is directed generally to children, while the more "mature" gamer is a PC user. Thus, the pc user would realize the prestige package is a complete load of donkey sh*t and not pick it up. They would just pick the game up and Activision would be left with all these prestige packages sitting in boxes at their warehouse.

I find it funny that a lot of older people are screaming "NO SCREW YOU IW!!!" or similar and me being a teenager who many of you may describe as being stupid or inexperienced for it Doesnt seem to care. So what if we don't get it, Its not like if infinity ward have completelyturned our back on us, sure they have looked to the side but at least they are making the game for us. also the pricing issue shouldnt because like cryptik (or whatever his name is) said, the price we pay ($80-$100 for a brand new functional game) is the same as $80-$90 usd. However, I do see how It may be an issue for those who may be out of pocket.

The problem is, it sets a precedent. First they decide not to release limited editions on PC, then they release the Wii/PS2 version on PC, then they just don't release it on the PC at all.
As far as pricing goes, if that's the standard for your region, fine. I'm sure a big part of it is your government charging import taxes and entertainment taxes and such. Imagine they jacked up the base price 20%, though. How would you feel then?

Re: Modern Warfare 2 PC Not Getting Special Editions

I, like Krunch, really only purchase special editions when there is extra game content. I am buying the game from the maker, not something from someone else THROUGH them...

I also will site Empire:TW, where significant content (at least by some opinions) was added to the game itself and play-aids, so I also purchased that for my kids...(oh, yes, for me too- so I can let my computer-helpers test it- thats my rationalization - lol).

So, I don't care about special editions that don't have game or game-aid content, but I DO care about indications that we may get another console-limited game...

                            1)
I have made a lot of noise in the past about the irritating way in which PC users have to suffer the anachronistic limitations of the technical backwardness of console platform-designed games. Games like Empire:TW which would be hard to play (smoothly and attractively-if at all) on most if not all consoles is a clear example of how much those platforms must limit what we receive vis a vis our capacity. It will not make me more hopeful about what we will receive for our 60 bucks, unless there is an awful lot of optimization optioning...

                            2)
The marketing for console versus PC markets, as has been partially pointed-out above, is quite different. Unless divulged (unusual and unlikely) the marketing and leasing agreements between publishers (i.e. Activision) and service providers (i.e. but not limited to MS Live!) is also a huge area of consideration financially and marketing-wise. Since we are not privy to those agreements, we cannot know what was arranged, bought and sold, negotiated and so forth, on top of the known demographical differences between the two markets already partially highlighted by other posters above.

I will summarize in this way, I have stopped purchasing consoles for my kids because of the constipation of technology advance and the attempt by some (such as MS) to use captive marketing to segment and addict for inferior product...

(I'm not as righteous about addiction where either, a) you don't pay by the clock, or b) the product is technologically superior to most or all of the competition - although I am really sorry about that part b, there is little enough chance of that given the 1990's technology sported by consoles...)

Couldn't care less about the extra toys, but I will be looking very carefully at the technical aspects of the game development and potential for lobotomies.
