  • TGN Reviews Battlefield 1943

Our staff writer here on TGN, Dairuka, has now posted his official review of Battlefield 1943. We think some people will be surprised by the score given to the game. Here's the intro to the article:
Battlefield 1943's release is a very controversial one among longtime fans of the PC series. The name alone would suggest this is the official sequel to Battlefield 1942; however, the price tag hints we’re to expect nothing more than an arcade shooter that has very little in common with its predecessor. Perhaps this is due in part to the inclusion of a modified version of Battlefield: Bad Company’s Frostbite engine rather than the classic Refractor 2 engine credited for the breakout success of the series. Still, at a price tag of only $15, it’s safe to say that Battlefield 1943 offers many draws to console gamers who, to this day, lacked a true Battlefield game to call their own. Read more...

the best review I have seen so far. agreed with it 100%.

that being said, bf1943 needs to be remade ENTIRELY using this engine (hello future 1943 for PC modders!)

Well I enjoy the game, very fun. And, for 15$ its a good filler game for the summer.

....... why FPS´ are not for concoles. At least not the genuine BF-series.
Since only the controls pull down the rating, well except the audio, it will propably be 10/10 on the PC.
And if the gamplay score remains so so we still end up with a score of 8,3.
If the controls score also has an effect on the gampley score we should end up with a total score of 9/10.
Thats quite decent for a 15 dollar game.

I agreed with a lot of it but a 10/10 on the graphics? The graphics are rather poor. The promo shots and screen shots were all done to make it look really nice but in game things are choppy, blurry, and jagged where many times it is hard to distinguish/identify objects apart. That is coming off a PS3 with an HDMI cable hooked up to Samsungs newest LN52B750 monster HDTV which has no trouble with any other games or blu ray movies.

1943 is sub par in every possible way.

                  I agree with that review.

I disagree with the Graphics score. Should be a lot lower. Its does not support 1080p or anti-aliasing on the PS3 and it surely should, the frostbite engine looks as if it could handle it.

                  Controls are awful also.

I still see people looking at the game this way, and its getting annoying.

This is a fifteen dollar game (the size of which is only around 500 MB) that is being marketed on, of all things, Xbox Live ARCADE and people really expect awesome full throttle amazingness that we would expect from a game like BF3. Actually BF1943 IS a dumbed down 1942 (obviously) because that it was it is supposed to be, simply a side project.

A major redux of BF1942 would be a huge project because it's like making another whole Battlefield game which is unreasonable because DICE also happens to be working on what we know as BC2, AND BF3.

For what they made it worth, the game is great. Not only did they introduce a destruction model that NO other major MP game has, make it look good (the game looks perfectly fine for what it is supposed to be, a 1942 remake, and it looks fine on my 42. in. HD downstairs, on an xbox using the technology from 3 years ago.), and make it all downloadable, I think they did a pretty damn on-par job.

Well the control problems should be eliminated in the PC version, although I guess there's always a possibility that another problem will take its place.

Still, looking forward to giving the PC version a try.

Same here, actually. Somehow, I suspect that the extra time from the original release until now will give them time to work out some kinks which may have been left in the console versions.

Yes, it is a $15 game, but we shouldn't lower our rating standards because of it. It's not 10/10 graphics, unless you add for the price.

Well... this game can be "game shared" I think across 4 people with 1 purchase. So split 4 ways, it's like a $3.75 game.

I got it free from a friend. You just need someone that trusts you with their account.

I do not think you should cut them slack on the graphics just because the game is 'cheap'. It is an entire theater of war which is 25% of a completed game.

What if for example they released 3 more packs for a total cost of $60. Each added the next theater of war. So you get Africa, Easter Europe, and Western Europe. Would we still be saying oh well for each theater of war only being $15 the graphics are great.

And I believe that is their plan, to see each one released for $15 until you have a full $60 game assuming the sales for the current pack meet their projections. If that happens then we are indeed looking at not only a full game but one at an even higher total price tag than other PC games out there.

The other thing about the graphics is the promo shots looked really nice and crisp. I was in awe at how nice it looked from some of the videos and screen shots. In game is a totally different world than what saw and that made the let down even bigger.
