    Gustav Halling Tackles Some Topics

DICE's very own Gustav Halling has posted up some topics and explanations on his website regarding Battlefield 1943. Here's what he had to say:
1 week left of my vacation but I thought I could try and answer some of the questions/points that have been posted.

    Default Airplane Controls
We wanted to have inverted axis as default on airplanes but a requirement from one of the console companies made it impossible since as default pressing up on a stick must always mean up in the game on their console. So this is nothing we can do anything about it and we did try to make it “pass” before release. Just go into options and change airplane axis and you are all set!

Tank Shells Having Close to No Splash
The tank driver have both shells and a coax gun. Use the coax on soldiers and you will be fine, if shells had big splash damage against infantry it would be overpowered.

    Friendly Fire
There is no “fun” in killing team mates. Plus I already seen a lot more “up sides” to it, people cant shoot their own team planes just because they didn’t get it themselves.

    Demo Having Expiry Time
This is an online only multiplayer game, if we didn’t have an expiry time we would give the game away for free. But your can play around in the tutorial level as long as you want to!

    Tank Sights
The 3rd person camera sight is not supposed to be used for precision aiming, 3rd person is for driving and maybe close combat shooting at houses. The 1st person view is the best sight to use when you are in a fire fight.

"Just go into options and change airplane axis and you are all set!"

What does he mean by this? Does this fix the default?

It changes the controls for the airplanes obviously...

I think he answered them questions with very nice answers... It's all about the balance...

You have to change the controls for the Aircraft so their inverted IE when you stick forward the plane pitches down and when you stick down the plane pitches up, the default makes no sense and renders the planes un-flyable.

It's TONS easier to fly after you switch the controlls.

Not to gloat but mostly to prove a point, I am usually hands down the best pilot in any server I play in and use the default control scheme. Not impossible but if you are used to flying in any other game it will throw you through a loop until you get it programmed in your mind down is down and up is up.
