Top Ten Campaign Levels in the Call of Duty Series

The guys over at Nothing But Shooters have published a nifty little article detailing their list of the top ten campaign levels in the Call of Duty series. Take a look:
Much of the CoD series’ success can be attributed to its multiplayer components. However, the campaign levels of each game consistently deliver gripping experiences as well, yet these often receive significantly less praise than the popular multiplayer battles. For many people, nothing compares to the thrill of online play, though it can still be very satisfying to play through an intense campaign alone.

Having said that, the compilation below represents my top ten campaign levels from the Call of Duty games. It was a little tricky to narrow these picks down, as there are many excellent levels from this series and I do recognize that everyone will have a unique viewpoint of their own.

    10. Ultimatum – CoD4
Ultimatum starts off slow, as you’ll begin by searching guard houses for the captured SSgt. Griggs, but it’s tremendous fun to silently stalk unsuspecting adversaries and take them down before they even know you’re there. After you eliminate Griggs’ captors and rescue him, you’ll arrive at a hydro tower with your name on it, waiting to be toppled. You plant a couple of charges, stand back, hit the trigger, and watch as the tower dramatically collapses over the ledge. It never gets old. This of course does not go unnoticed and the situation heats up in a hurry. A number of firefights ensue until the level ends with you staring helplessly at the sky to watch as a pair of freshly launched missiles gain altitude in one of the game’s more memorable moments.

Want to see what they picked for the rest of the top campaign levels? Be sure to head on over here then. Do you agree with their list? If not, what level would you place in the #1 spot?

I am very disappointed that no missions from vCoD or CoDUO were on there.

What an awful list. I thought there were much better missions in the originals CoDs. Storming the Germans when playing Russian was a really, really tense level. Storywise, it was 10x better than anything CoD4 threw at you.

I thought the mission in CoD2, after Point Du Hoc, where you get pushed all the way back to the cliffs, was an intense mission. And very wrenhcing

Ridiculous! How do you not have the Russian attack of reclaiming Stalingrad from CoD:UO, that mission was amazing! Heck, the very first mission in the very first CoD was awesome! Night time, dead cows, insanity, flames. THAT was the beginning of intense fighting. Some of those missions they listed are good, but as others said, some of the missions for vCoD and UO should have made the list. Sounds like the guy who wrote this list hasn't been a CoD fan since the beginning.

Thanks for mentioning our article, much appreciated!

Considering the number of phenomenal missions the CoD games offer and the varying opinions people will hold on such a topic, doing a top twenty or twenty-five list may have been good idea so that more entries from the series could have been included. As stated in the article, it was not an easy task to compile what I feel are the ten best levels and there are plenty of others I'm very fond of that were left out. Thanks for the feedback and alternate suggestions.

So Mike, may I ask, did you play the first CoD or CoD:UO? I was just wondering if you didn't include any missions from those games b/c you didn't think they were good enough, or if your CoD journey began with CoD2? Not judging, just wondering. :)
