Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition Priced

As some of may have read over in the unboxing of the Prestige Edition thread, Infinity Ward has announced that retail price for this package. They have also posted a brief bit of info on the original COD which comes in the Prestige Edition. Here's the post from their Twitter:

A to some of your Q's - Prestige Edition suggested retail is $149 & yes, the COD Classic on XBLA & PSN does have full MP.

That price is not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Personally, I'll just stick with a copy of the game! Which version will you purchase: Standard, Hardened, or Prestige?

As I stated in the other thread, this is one of the cheapest, and cheesiest marketing gimmicks I have ever seen. This is up there with Gamestop's rubber ducky packaged Wii's a few months ago.

If I want to see in the dark, I'll use a flashlight. I can pick a decent one up for $10.00 at Home Depot.

^ A response i would expect from a 16 year old. This is a forum based on ideas/thoughts/opinions of the gaming population.

If you don't like my ideas, don't post, or at least defend your opinion instead of trying to insult someone over the internet. Don't come around shouting off like you just dropped your chocolate milk on the floor.

My thoughts on this marketing gimmick is just that...my thoughts. If you think this is the best thing to hit the market since slim jim, then so be it.

As for the PS? grown up's sometime us that. You'll learn someday.

I also think its a cheesy marketing ploy.

But its also effective. A lot of kids will have their parents buy this version because of the trinkets. And lets not forget that this game is coming out just in time for Xmas.

I mean the goggles are kind of cheap (being infrared and not truly NV). And the other stuff is something that I could easily see being thrown away after a couple of years.

It's an interesting conundrum. The hardcore gamers just want the game and don't care about the trinkets (especially with the 150 price tag). The casual gamers certainly don't want to spend all that money for a game they are just going to casually play.

So I think this is intended more for the fanboys and the gullable parents.

But I also think it's not a bad move because they will definately move these units based on folks wanting to have the best of everything.

For me though - 150 is WAY beyond the limit of a "deluxe" edition. The other thing that worries me is: "when does it stop?"

How far will companies start to go to make deluxe editions? I think it's not outside reality to believe that soon games will sell different versions that give great features and content based on how much you spend. In some respects we are already seeing this.

First, I will not be buying this. If IW wants to send it to the Total CoD site director for free...I won't turn it down of course. :p lol

Second, while this does seem laughable to most, as stated by some, it will sell to the younger crowd or to parents who are getting a gift for their kids. Smart imo for IW to do this, I'm sure they'll make some green for it.

Also, at least it does have some significant stuff for a 'special edition.' I mean seriously, even though it has a higher price tag, compare this to most special editions where you get pretty much nothing... Heck, I used to just buy the special edition b/c that was the only way to get a game on a dvd instead of 4-6 discs hah!

I've been getting sick of these special edition packs lately. honestly i can get a used 360 for the price of this.

even the Hardened has nothing really special about it. a tin case and a book of info we can get online. the free copy of the original cod i do like.

but what makes me very upset is that the PC version is the same price as the 360. (for just the game)

what happened to the 49.99 pc game price?


im getting just the game. i may just buy it off steam but i like having hard copies of games so i dont have to re-download them if i have to re-install or whatever.

Great. $60 for the base game WTF. Infinity ward has no soul.

I mean theres going to be nothing ground breaking enough to warrant the extra ten bucks plus god knows when we will even see the Map packs... if we even do.
