    GameSpy Previews Battlefield 1943

GameSpy is angry, not because Battlefield 1943 is a bad game, but because others think it will be bad because of the price. Read what GameSpy has to say in their Battlefield 1943 preview. Check it out:
I, for one, am more than a little tired of people constantly complaining when downloadable games on PSN and XBLA are more than $10. Sure, sometimes the games aren't worth it, but I think that too many folks are quick to assume that the value isn't there before they check the game out themselves; this is what demos are for, after all.

Recently I checked out Battlefield 1943: Pacific, playing through the various levels, and I can safely say that for me it'll be worth the price tag of $15. Allow me to break it down for those of you who might need convincing.

Only Four Maps and Three Classes? WTF?

Yeah, I know, when you first hear that 1943 has only four maps and three classes you hit the freak-out button and want to rush to a forum and write a hasty complaint. But hold on for a second and consider the shooters you love that have a ton of maps but only a few that most people end up playing on (hopefully the best-designed). With 1943 all four of the maps feel like they're of this quality, and I was never disappointed when one rotated out for another. The maps are just the right size for the amount of people playing (up to 24), as the teams are never quite big enough to camp each point of defense and attack those that are under enemy control. Each match was an intense back-and-forth rather than a landslide victory or loss.<!--more-->

As for classes, while the player can only pick from three, I was surprised how well three classes cover all the needs of a team on the field. There's no need for medics anymore, as everyone has recharging health, so the three classes focus on anti-infantry, anti-vehicle, and sniping. Each class has a secondary weapon that has limited ammo -- explosives for the sniper, grenade launcher rounds for the anti-infantry, and bazooka rounds for the anti-vehicle -- and a primary weapon with infinite ammo (yes, it still reloads at the end of each clip). The roles of each class are focused enough to still encourage a mixed team make-up but none of the classes feel like they're pigeon-holed into serving only a single purpose, either. Most importantly, with these three classes any team can take on any of the challenges or situations on the battlefield, as all the levels and vehicles are designed to take advantage of the features of the classes provided.
