North American shooter fans everywhere rejoice at the sudden and currently unannounced (as of 9:15am, June 25, 2009 EST) release of ARMA 2's demo at 9am EST, June 25, 2009 by Bohemia Interactive Studio.

ARMA 2 (Often incorrectly referred to as Armed Assault 2) has already been released for European fans, but will be released in North America PC tomorrow, June 26, 2009, on Steam. Boxed copies of the game should arrive in North America on July 7th. For more information please visit the game website.

Yeah, they've been updating the news on their forums for the last week that the demo was coming. Some other sites had mentioned it also. It's not Armed Assault? What's the ARMA stand for then?

And wow, times I still wish I had my Fileplanet subscription. Grr. Should be on Games on Net very soon, I'll update with the link when it gets on there.

Yes, Fileplanet is currently the only place. I believe TGN is trying to get it and upload to their TGF.

No the first game was called ArmA:Armed Assault. The second instalment (i.e. the demo above) is called ArmA II. One of the developers posted a whole thread explaining about the name and its origins a little while ago, i searched for it but i couldn't find it.

ArmA is believed to be an acronym for Armed Assault. However while he acknowledges that, he goes into an explanation of what it means in some language or other. I think he was half taking the p|ss though.

Im already taking bets on the first demo gripes thread.

EDIT: Apparently, it means "weapon" in Latin. Or one guy says, "From Late Latin, armafrom Latin arma("weapons of war, war, defence, tools")"

People discussing here.

First one was called ARMA: Armed Assault, so it would be silly to call it Armed Assault: Armed Assault lol.
