lol...Isn't it the president's job not to mind his own business seeing as he's the one running our country...

Why would we even elect a president if they don't get involved with issues? Not that I think videos games are really a health concern personally, but I just have to laugh at your comment.

Some of the people on this forum are fit, have active social lives, and balance their gaming/TV/whatever without any trouble.

I guarantee you that many others are indeed overweight, inactive, and have social issues and/or problems with school or work that are made worse by gaming.

It's not a cause to ban anything (and I don't think the article suggests that), but there is cause to bring awareness to the issue, and to examine it.

When young adults are in college/univ, sure, it's their life, and their choice (and I can tell you from seeing it first hand, that even back in the early 90's, before widespread internet and home consoles as powerful as the 360/PS3, it was already a problem for some). But for kids still in elementary or highschool, parents and teachers need to be made aware, or even beaten over the head with information, so that they can try to correct certain negative behaviours before they progress too far.

Maybe the focus here was gaming, but overall, First World nations are becoming lazier and fatter. Much of that is due to all our conveniences, and easy entertainment choices at home (TV, Movies, Internet, Gaming). Even social interaction is affected...people no longer have to learn to deal with each other face-to-face as much...they can do it through text, which then leads to a whole new set of issues and problems.

It can't and shouldn't be ignored, because it will lead to bigger health issues down the road for many people, and the cost of that gets passed on to everyone in one way or another. Not to mention how it will affect more and more people socially.

Gaming isn't going away. For those who can enjoy this hobby (and that's what it should only be, a hobby) sensibly, there's nothing to worry about and no need to be defensive. If your life is balanced, good for you...keep it that way. :) But for a lot of other people, it is a big problem and needs to be dealt with by identifying the root issues early on, before it goes too far.

Generations before us made the mistake of ignoring warning signs of certain social issues, which we're now seeing the impact of in our lifetimes, and we'll be paying for to fix. We should not have the same head-in-the-sand approach that they often took, thinking something wasn't a problem, or that people should just toughen up. It's not always that easy.
