It has been reported that games sales have decreased by a dramatic 23% compared to last May. Market research company NPD has announced that sales are down a to $863.3 million compared to the $1.12 billion of last year. Computer hardware and software also took a tumble dropping 30% and 17% respectively.

The video games industry continues to struggle with difficult comparisons to last year, and this is the first month that industry sales have dipped below $1 billion since August 2007. May is typically one of the lowest revenue-generating months in any given year for the industry in general.
