that's how i feel. i think it's been under development for a while. the COO did say he did see the game and he was very satisfied. my guess is it started late 07 when the leaked PDF started going around the web.

what are you talking about? BC2 is slated for this winter, BF3 is due spring/summer of next fiscal year. not a year or 2 in between but months.

This kind of statement ^ is exactly the kind of example I gave in another thread of people mis-reading and mis-interpreting what was actually said.

In a recent video interview, one of the higher-ups at DICE gave the best estimate for BC2 as Q1 of 2010.

The EA COO who let the BF3 cat out of the bag, said of BF3's release "not this fiscal year". That does not automatically mean next fiscal year. And no mention at all of "spring/summer". Is it possible? Yes. But nowhere near solid, or even hinted at. The COO said that he was impressed by how the team was working on BF3, and that the product was looking good. That does not necessarily mean anywhere near a playable state.

When you think of the gap in between game releases, you also have to think of the financial side as well. BC2 is coming out for PC, and is supposed to have a simultaneous release with consoles in Q1 2010. If EA cranks out BF3 only a year, or a year+a few months later, sales will likely suffer for it. COD and L4D are currently going through a bit of a public backlash for doing this. Would EA even bother wasting time on the programming of BC2 for PC, if BF3 was coming out roughly a year later? Possibly. But probably? IMO, no.

This is why I think the gap between their releases will be longer...with BF3 coming late 2011 or early 2012 at the very soonest. I hope I'm wrong. I'd like to see it earlier. But I just don't see that happening realistically.

It's fun to speculate, but this is why some people get really ticked off at game companies...they read rumour posted as fact, then when it doesn't happen, they're disappointed.

We know it now exists. We know the EA COO likes what he's seen so far. And that it's not coming this fiscal year. That's it.

I'm just saying, don't get your hopes up until we get solid, specific info from an official source in DICE/EA.

yea true, not this fiscal year doesn't mean the next, i figured that out after i made my post. i still don't think it's gonna be over a year or 2 in between though.

I pretty much sum up Q1 2012 here:

Im afraid it could, BFBC2 will be released in 2010 and i HIGHLY doubt they will release BF3 within a year maybe more of BFBC2's release due to the fact they want to maximise their profits for the game.

Then there is the issue of releasing patches for 1943 and BFBC2 combined with the fact that many of there multiplayer tests if they use the same engine (which i doubt) may come from BFBC2 feedback.

All of this combined with the huge hype before release of BF3 could imo easily push it back to Januray 2012.

No. DiCE, give it to the world when it is done. Not when EA investors expect it to arrive. Not when these kids (and that goes for you young men too) demand it out of impatience.

Please, do what Id and Blizzard do/say. It will be out when it is complete. I do not want a rehash of all the mistakes of the past. Releasing it early/late, incomplete and flawed.

BF2 came out almost a year late anyways and I think it was 1-2 years earlier that Collin had shown the demos of Kubra Dam and street fighting with some Mashtuur style map.

Please, hold out this time. Go for something epic, not simply 'satisfying'.

At first all I wanted was Battlefield 3. As these other new games have been announced (1943 and BC2) I really don't mind that we won't see BF3 for awhile longer and I kind of like that. I'm looking forward to giving 1943 and BC2 plenty of playtime and enjoy the new gameplay mechanics. The longer it takes for BF3 to come out, the more hardware matures allowing better graphics and technologies which should make a game much more advanced than BF2. :salute:

By the time BF3 comes (measured in yrs not mths), the next gen hardware will be more common i.e much higher clock speed of the iC7 (hopefully) coupled with already bandwidth mem/bus tripple speed approach, will be the normal hardware for fps fans, save your dollar/bucks/pennies :nod:
