    Homefront Trailer + Impressions

THQ has released the debut trailer for the Kaos Studios' developed game Homefront today. We've also included some impressions on the game which were posted over on GameSpot. Have a look:
Kaos Studios' Erin Daly suggests that Homefront will stand out from the many, many other first-person shooters out there with at least three key features: one, its locations, which will primarily be devastated versions of familiar American locales. The game will begin in the state of Colorado, which is currently known for its beautiful Rocky Mountain vistas, but will, like the rest of America, be a smoldering ruin in Homefront--and take on what Kaos hopes will be an "alien" look. Over the course of the game, you'll eventually head west and end up fighting along the Pacific Coast in a series of escalating battles. That'll be the second key feature that Daly suggests Homefront will offer--fast-paced action with no breaks and no cinematic cutscenes--all dialogue and story events will happen in real-time, like in the Half-Life series. And finally, the third feature that Kaos hopes will set the game apart will be its "toys"--specifically, future tech weapons and vehicles which, while only in experimental stages today, will be fully realized and usable in the game.

Looks to me like FFoW in a different setting, but same overall feel of the game. None the less I do like it and I can't wait to see more.

I thought the same thing after watching the trailer. I don't know if it's just me, but it looks like some of the vehicles could've been taken straight from FFOW and put into this game (Not saying they did that, just saying they look quite similar).

Was thinking the exact same thing about the vehicles. The whole feel of it and well art style and landscaping seems the same. Might as well call it FFoW2. Just realized both games have the word "front" in them... lol

Did look similar but personally FFoW wasnt a bad game, maybe if KAOS have learned from their mistakes this game might just be everything FFoW wanted to be.

I will keep an eye on this.

Lol so they took the same concept from their failtacular that was FFOW and put it in America and called it a new game ? Um no thanks. You play singleplayer once, I don't really care how good it is.

Lets face facts here, unless any FPS game is at least as good as BF2, there is no point in even making it. COD4/5 Have their own little niche, along with ARMA / ARMA 2 , so unless your planning to step into the ring with the big boys, sit down KAOS. You made a great mod for 1942, what have you done since then ?

No offense but that is some horrible logic. First off, how good a game is depends on the person playing it. Some people may absolutely love a game while others hate it. The phrase the eye of the beholder seems to come to mind here. To say no company should create a game if it's not as good as BF2 is just plain stupid. I enjoy BF2 yes, but some people may not and some people would strongly disagree with you by your use of BF2 as a benchmark for "good" FPS games. When a company goes to make a game, I don't think they're saying we have to be at least as good as this other game. Risk taking is a large part of what makes things great. New ideas and features in games that people may not be used to doesn't automatically mean the game will fail. It'd be silly of a company to try to simply replicate another game to make sure they are "at least as good as game x". And your post makes no mention of CS, which is probably the most popular FPS game out there.

And what has Kaos Studios done since Desert Combat? Well they made FFOW and they are now making Homefront...that seems like a pretty simple question to answer. :)

Lol they made FFOW ? Thats an acheivement ? It has how many servers going ? 3 ?

The huge hype around KAOS was that they were supposed to be amazing, we all expected awesome things from them, and they promised them in FFOW. We all wanted it to be good. But it wasn't , at all. In any way shape or form. My point is , if you cannot make a game now today, that is better than a game that is over 3 years old , you are doing something wrong. They have already proved they can't do it. So im saying do something right for once KAOS, live up to what you told everyone you would be.

Once again, wow. Know about the game before you make yourself sound stupid. FFoW did quite well on the 360 being ranked #4spot on the Xbox Live charts for a while, and selling a good amount of copies. The PC version sold a decent amount but was plagued with issues. That does not mean it was a bad game no. I believe it was a great game, I loved it for a matter of fact, and I am not the only one either. Just because you think it was a bad game, you are justifying that they should not make another? You sound like a complete idiot.

                    /end rant

As i said before, FFoW was actually a very good game, those who are doubting that either have never played it or didnt give it enough chance.

I dont play 360 FPS games. Period. On pc, it was a failure. A complete and utter failure, so on the platform where they could have done the most, they did the least, so in this respect I am quite correct. And it WAS ranked #4 , Not, 1,2, or even 3, but 4, and for a while ? You know what, I don't care. In my opinion they had all the time and chances in the world to make it good, and they didn't . So no, I have zero faith in this.

                          Bumpity.
The game is now available for preorder on Steam, released on 11 March 2011.
I liked FFoW, except that lag made it unplayable. I really hope they have done it right this time, we could certainly use some competition to the CoD / BF duopoly.

I loved the sound in FFOW but could never really get into the multi-player portion of it
