Thats exactly my problem, it is way more balanced than CoD 4. The next step is having the game play itself for you so you can sit and watch.

The fact that there are perks to counter everything breaks it down into Scissors-Paper-Rock gameplay.

The machine guns have 50 bullet drums/belts at the maximum.

These are two game breakers for me. It should not be balanced to the point where new players have the same chance as someone with skill and experience. There is no need to treat the playerbase like infants.

I never had a problem with people laying down large amounts of LMG fire in CoD 4. Thats what LMGs are for, to lay down large volumes of suppressing fire.

Whereas Bomb Squad was already good enough to avoid explosives, we really didn't need something that basically removes all explosive damage from you (Flak Jacket).

Although Flak Jacket was not used by many people (on PS3), I don't like what it hints at, it is suggestive of a game where the numerous tools of war (grenades, flashbangs, RPGs, claymores for example) are made redundant for the sake of balance.

So in short, I don't like Treyarch's balance. Not because I thought it was horribly unbalanced. But because it was far too balanced.

I would never use the LMGs for that purpose in CoD4. I just shot at people.

They wouldn't die sometimes because the LMGs weren't as good as using an assault rifle or the like, but in a game like CoD4 there isn't really a point to having a "suppressive fire" type machine gun/weapon.

Play BFE (cod4 tourny) and try planting a bomb in SAB with an LMG Supressing you

I think the M249 SAW can take a 30 round STANAG magazine. Why don't we just limit it to that in MW2?

There is no point to having machine guns in the game if they don't have their full volume (or close to full volume) of ammunition.

              Thats a good point.

Now me, I'm kind of a war buff (Like most of us here, I am sure) and I tend to remember events pretty well. When I was reading your post this reminded me of "Stonewall" Jackson during the American Civil War. He was Lee's greatest general and nothing the Union threw at him could stop him. He was accidently shot by one of his own guys, lost an arm and eventully died from the whole thing.

So the whole point to my history lesson is that a simple musket killed him. A great general. A 1337 player in the battlefield and some noob teamkilled him. To me, a good game should have rewards for good players, but shouldnt allow a good player to stomp the average joe into the ground because they happened to play longer or "better". I think thats what WoW is for

I stomp new players into the ground all the time and end up toning it down as I get to feel bad for them. I dont mind that they have some better weapons to start with or ways to counter me. Or me to counter the great players

But I see your points too and dont entirely disagree.

                Re: Your Reaction/Opinion of MW2 Post-Full Trailer

Okay, the deal with the LMG is this...if you then want to make it more realistic by allowing more bullets, you also have to realize it would be a super gun as one bullet from that thing in real life can kill you. And from some campers/hackers I played with in CoD4, they did just that. They would shoot through all the walls with the powerful LMG and mow down everyone, it was ridiculous!

Video games are about balance and I commend Treyarch for doing quite well at attaining it in CoD:WW as most games try to achieve it, but fail.

As far as new people doing just as well or worse with lesser equipment, well, I will bring in my musical background for this one. If you have an amazing Les Paul guitar worth $10,000 and you give it to a new guy, he MAY be able to do some cool stuff with it, but not a whole lot. Give that guitar to say Slash from GnR and he will rock your face off. Now, take a $100 Squier guitar (Cheap-Generic brand guitar that Fender makes), and give that guitar to a noob, he will sound horrible with it and just like with the nice guitar, won't be able to do much anyway. Now, give that guitar to Slash, and even though it's not the best sound guitar in the world, he will still rock your face off b/c he knows what he's doing and he has skills. <-Weapons don't matter as much if you have the skills. That's why some guys can go around knifing everyone or just use their pistol and they're close to the top of the scoreboard. I outsmart a lot of my enemies.

And as for the topic, I put that I'm not yet decided. I know it will be a popular game, that will be solid, but I'm not sure if I'll have 'uber amounts of fun' playing it. I'm sure I'll get enjoyment out of it though.

I make very few comments on this forum, either because someone inevitably has said what I would, but more succinctly, colorfully, or amusingly, or because I really haven't anything that adds to the discussion.

reading these posts has forced my hand though...

                  1) Anyone unfamiliar with Rio might make the call that it is out of place and cannot support the story. Anyone who has been there recently, and not just to the 'happy' parts of Zona Sul beaches, but elsewhere in the city, or even done any favella-diving in Rocina or Favella do Morro (on the periphery of ZS itself) will know a good percentage of the city exists in anarchy, 50% of the estimated population of 14 million remain unregistered inhabitants in extra-legal buildings that officially don't exist, and the federal government often tries to send in troops which are just as often refused by the local governor or mayor. Drug lords who occupy these various favellas exert influence into the surrounding legally-extant 'bairros' often commanding merchants to open, close or do other things based on the parallel 'drug-government', and "occupation" by the military police of the hills where these favellas usually are results in - literally - open warfare, usually repaid by the bombing/assault of the local BPM base. That said, it is a wonderful city ruined, I used to be there all the time - lived there for a while. I now go only every other year (like this Christamas and New Years) to let the In-laws get to visit with the kids. Its dangerous, haphazard, and in most places, a very thin veneer of civilization overlaying a matrix of passive populations capable of supporting whatever keeps them out of harm's way. Except for those two days, and departure and arrival time, every other moment of our time will be spent OUTSIDE of RdJ.

2)I have excoriated Treyarch in the past, to find as time progresses, the rock.paper.scissors thing wasn't that bad an idea, and they did manage to stop making things worse with patches... Its not reality, but then, neither is being able to snipe someone halfway across the field equally with say, an m16 or skorp...and I have seen much worse, as you all have, in games than CoD4 or 5.

Whether you want more of the same but better, or something completely different is like saying, yeah, I want that chocolate to be, say Haagan Daas Chocolate, OR I want that chocolate to taste like vanilla (if you are a mataphor purist, why, I suppose you could reverse it).
You MAY be able to get the former but the latter probably isnt going to happen for a number of economically, marketing-driven reasons that you don't need me to spell out. It is POSSIBLE that some modal introduction of different gameplay limiting co-op play to squad level and support, could be offered, but business logical is it would be an intro, not the main course.

Everyone is just talking about the singleplayer, but the truth is you won't buy MW2 for the singleplayer. You'll buy it for the multiplayer we all love.
I'm just worried that the singleplayer will be great, but the multiplayer will be just like CoD4's MP.
If that's the case, aren't we better off sticking with CoD4 then?

                      Good post Dimwit.

I dont think many are familiar with Rio and that sheds a lot more light on it.

I also agree with #2. Pretty much sums up what happens.

Well, in regards to MP, MW2 will probably be slightly better graphically than COD4. There will be a bunch of fresh, new maps...and probably some revision to the perk system, along with new weapons and attachments (and if IW is smart, they'll add in some of the improvements from CODWW - like more game types and better customizable servers).

By the time MW2 comes out, COD4 will be a full 2 yrs old. For a lot of people, I think that a game that plays similar to COD4, but with new maps/new look will probably be worth it.

                            IMHO:

MW2 could just be a redo of CoD4 and I'd be happy. CoD4 was such a great singleplayer game. (not a fan of the kill streak perks - but theres pros an cons to every multiplayer game).

I'm old school. I don't need a new engine and pretty new features to get me to buy a game. I remember back in the day when games were released on the previous engines with just a few tweaks. As long as it's as fun as CoD4 and picks up the storyline - I'm happy. Look at the episode success for HL2 (nothing changed but the story and missions).

It was great because we didn't have to upgrade our system every christmas to play the latest games (ever wonder why PC gaming is dying?).

Good post Dimwit, and others on here also. I agree on the last paragraph of yours Dimwit that not a whole lot of the 'main course' will change for CoD4. As you said, due to economic success of CoD4, they obviously did something right. Why do people get so shocked that most of the movies in the theaters are sequels? Producers want to make money, and if the original did well, the odds are good they'll make even more or the same for the next one. AND, a lot of movies that aren't sequels are just the same old stories from way back in the day, but they've been slightly changed/revamped, but most younger people do not realize it. Yes, I'm younger also, but a lot of people do not realize that stories get used again.

Some statements in this thread lead me to believe not everyone has read the magazine article that was in Game Informer for MW2. The MW2 sp will be short again, it was plainly stated. IW is happy with the short but sweet (intense) action and believe that the story should drive the length of the game. Then, they can focus on mp which they realize nowadays is huge. That is one point so many PC fans for get IMO. When consoles did not have the internetz, only straight PC games focused on mp...sometimes. Games that were across all platforms had more focus on sp as that was what the console people were mainly able to play. Yes, I realize there are exceptions i.e. Goldeneye (greatest game ever, kthx) and Halo (most overrated game ever, kthx), but now that even the consoles have the mp internet gaming, developers are FINALLY...almost, FINALLY starting to realize how HUGE mp is for a game. So really, consoles haven't hurt the pc gaming scene, maybe in this beginning time, but in the long run, we will all win, I believe, b/c developers will want to make all gamers happy (and get their cash ) and that comes from having a great mp game.
