Yes you do , small maps with only a few players does not make battles '' EPIC '' , the only way to get them type of battles is with more players

The amount of players is a facade in gaming.

Its all based around the respawn.

You could have 128 players with no respawns and the match is going to slowly turn into a waiting game.

If you spawn in the rear the battle slowly gets spread out to skirmishes.

If you spawn on the action, the amount of people you are fighting can seem endless.

Im not saying 24 is enough.. but done right.. you by far dont "need" 128 players in a game..

The only way to make games more epic is to use codies new idea..
          You command more AI troops.

          Bandwidths have limits.

Some want more enemies, some want more realistic environments..

          Computers arent magic.

If the environments had not been the main focus for the last 20 years..
You would be popping quarters into a pacman machine playing against 199 ghosts all run by other humans.

The root of the problem here is that they are going away from a model that has been proven to work amazingly in the past. I don't understand why they don't use the same model as the previous PC Battlefield games, its what people loved and its what people want. I don't understand how they expect this to be a hit on the PC when they are going away from that. The battlefields have historically had a good mix of big maps with spawn points that put you right into the action, so the battles were epic because it was a big map, with lots of players, and fast game play.

I also don't think environments are the root problem, look at Battlefield 1942 when that came out, that looked AMAZING for its time. Same with all the battlefield games, each one looked very good for its time.

When i talk about environments im not just talking about the way they look.

Im talking about how they actually effect the gameplay.

Dice adding interiors to all buildings is one major improvement.

It isn't BF3, nor is it meant to be. It does have 'Battlefield' in the name and share similarities with previous games - not map size or player count - but at least it's not COD with a couple of dozen people standing on each others toes. This is an experiment using the Frostbite engine on the PC, I'd rather that than they f**k up the next major Battlefield.

Look out for BFBC2 because it could very well be the "next big thing". I think the 40 player cap for consoles says quite a lot about what direction they're taking it.

Everyone should stop repeating the same arguments about BF1943. You don't like the idea of it, fine, just stop turning this whole place into some sort of Total Whinefield.

If this was releasing in June for the PC, I'd buy it. September...nein.

It seems to me that they pushed it back too far. For the summer, it might have been a good diversion. Now it's going to be competing with MW2 and a bunch of other games to be released near the same time frame.

That is indeed a danger. MW2, ArmA 2, possibly OPF2 will all be coming out around that time (although it can be argued that ArmA 2 and OPF2 are so different gameplay-wise that they might not appeal to the same gamer-group).

On the plus side, BF1943 will have a lower price (I think Patrick Liu quoted around $15 in the interview). That will be attractive. It's a different type of game and different setting than MW2, and will be a "filler" until BF:BC2 shows up in early 2010, allowing PC players to get a feel of the Frostbite engine on PC, so it has those things going for it.

Overall, I agree that summer would've been a much better and safer bet, however. I'm still going to pick it up myself, but it would've been nice to have something like this to play over the summer months. Ah, well...more time to go outside.

Oh, right. The evil light & heat giving, cancer-causing, giant ball of nuclear fusion in the sky. What was I thinking?

Speaking of the sun, I got burnt all to hell while working outside yesterday. Eli Lilly donates money to the Indiana National Guard so when they decided to get involved in a project called Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, The Adjutant General of the Indiana National Guard thought it would be a good idea to "voluntell" all of us who work full-time for the Guard to off-load, sort, and load 15,600 plants, flowers and trees for their project. We were told that we were working on it at 0830, started at 0900, and finished at 1730. There was no sunblock in the supply room and no time to go get any, so everyone got roasted.

                                Back on topic...
I think MW2, ArmA 2 and OPF2 are enough in the same genre that they are in overlapping demographics and will hurt the PC sales of 1943. Also, they are full games and not tech demos. A lot of players will be more willing to spend $40-50 on a full game with single-player and ~10 maps as opposed to a multiplayer-only game with just 3 maps. I know that unless some of my clan members jump into BF1943, or a lot of other people I know, I won't be buying it. I just don't buy MP-only games these days unless I know that I won't be alone running around pretty maps. The last time I did that was UT3 and it won't happen again.
