3D Realms Closes Due To Funding Duke Nukem Will Still Be Developed

News broke earlier today that the development studio 3D Realms is closing its doors due to funding. But Take-Two reassures gamers that they will still publish Duke Nukem Forever.
[FL]http://images.totalgamingnetwork.com/images/thumb_logo3dr.jpg[/FL]The publisher would not comment on the health of the studio, but simply reiterated its publishing rights to Duke Nukem Forever and said its agreement with 3D Realms did not include providing funding for the project.

"It is the Company's policy to not comment on its contractual relationships, nor do we comment on rumors and speculation," said Alan Lewis, VP of corporate communications and public affairs for Take-Two, in an e-mailed statement to TheFeed. "That said, we can confirm that our relationship with 3D Realms for Duke Nukem Forever was a publishing arrangement, which did not include ongoing funds for development of the title. In addition, Take-Two continues to retain the publishing rights to Duke Nukem Forever."

It was rumored that Apogee Software the studio behind the upcoming PSP and DS Duke Nukem games would be closing it's doors too, the games publisher Deep Silver has confirmed that the studio is not closing and they are still publishing the Duke Nukem Trilogy on the hand held platforms.
Apogee Software and Deep Silver have issued a statement to Shacknews, confirming that the situation at 3D Realms has not affected the development of Frontline Games' upcoming handheld Duke Nukem Trilogy.

"Deep Silver and Apogee Software are not affected by the situation at 3D Realms," a representative for the companies told us. "Development on the Duke Nukem Trilogy is continuing as planned."

While there has been no official announcement from 3D Realms or Take-Two on the actual closure of the studio the statement from Take-Two does indicate that 3D Realms is probably out of money.

    LIES!

There will be no Duke Nukem Forever.

The irony on this is all the anticipation for "The Duke" has made the game an icon and practically immortal, hence FOREVER.

Maybe they already made it forever.

Also, what games has 3DRealms released recently? I cannot really think of any.

Duke Nukem NEVER. I've been waiting and waiting for this and all I continue to hear is setback related and no real news of progress or promise.

        Bummer.

Take-Two says they still have the publishing rights to the game so they will obviously have someone else develop the game. I for one could only see Apogee, Raven Software, or ID Games doing it anyone else and it would be an outrage.

They've said that they've retained the rights, but won't fund any development, as that isn't their remit.

Yea so they will just sign an agreement with a developer to have them finish development but they won't fund them.

SOOOO, what that could mean is some upstart finish the game and if they happen to make it the most awesome FPS game in the history of FPSes, they would instantly have full name recognition.

Works the other way also though :/
