Modern Warfare 2 Official Box Art?

Could this be the official box art of the much anticipated Modern Warfare 2? At this point, it is not a definite announcement, but it is worth the speculation. Read below for more info:

What might be the very first tactile evidence of MW2, is this retail pre-order stub that was tweeted by IW Community Manager Fourzerotwo follower will0274.

This may be the genuine article given Fourzerotwo's reply to will0274:
"Looks like it's made it's way to retailers. I wonder when they'll start showing up on shelves."

The new Activision "Modern Warfare 2" is at least six months away from being released and yet it is already #1 on the top of the UK Game.com Pre-Order chart for both PS3 and 360 and #10 on the Blockbuster charts.

It is a believable box cover as it is similar to CoD4's along with the fact that every CoD cover art always features a soldier representative of the game. I personally think the cover could be improved, but we will see if this is legit or not in the near future.

It's probably just placeholder, but it'll do for now.

Remember that before COD4 was released, the old CharlieOscarDelta site (shudder) had a vote where they showed 4 different mock-ups of cover art, and people chose the one they liked best.

Its hard to say. In all the previous CoD titles (that I recall) the soldier was in an action shot. This guy looks like he is wondering around dazed or something. Though the soldier aspect is correct, the overall feel of the shot is not.

Could be wrong though, maybe they are taking it a different route.

Which, if the trailer is right, maybe the game is going to be more of a mature story and that soldier just came out of a physical and emotional destructive area. There is a lot of smoke behind him. So maybe a more serious story, something more 'real', and I do not necessarily mean 'realistic'.

And if this is after the blast from CoD4, that pic would make sense also.

seriously who cares? do you honestly look at the box art for more than 2 seconds while your ripping it open? no. they could type it in times new roman on a white paper for all i care. why would they waste money on making a sweet picture? i highly doubt there is anyone who ever was browsing in a video game store and stumbled across COD WAW and thought"hey, this game looks like its gonna be sewwt becasue the guy is shooting at something"

I won't be as blunt but I generally agree...it does not look like a finished, proper box art image.

Box art is important to marketing. Fans of the series will buy it regardless, but to attract new players who walk into a store to buy a game, there is indeed a "oooh! Shiney!" factor. The cover has to be attractive and jump out to catch their attention. The image we see above is fairly mediocre, IMO.

I agree, which is another reason why I dont think this is it. Its a good place holder, but marketing is very important, even to games.

As for Pattons comments, I wont flame, but I have bought games because of box art and commercials and I look at covers all the time just because I like the detail of them.

The games were pretty good too, btw. No duds yet. (knock on wood)
