    Battlefield Pirates 2 Mod Update

The Battlefield Pirates 2 mod team has posted some news about the newly released BF2 1.50 beta patch as well as their development progress. Check it out:
    Patch News:
Ahoy maties! If you havent seen the news elsewhere, then know ye that EA has finally released the v1.50 patch for BF2 today. You can get it from our friends at TotalBF2 and elsewhere.

This patch introduces new support for Windows Vista, has a new map called Operation Blue Pearl and officially adds Highway Tampa as a required map. It also has some new anti-cheating features, and potentially impacts BFP2 in the following two ways:

    - AA targeting has been tweaked, which may (or may not) improve the effectiveness of the parrot
    - Hitbox detection is more accurate to the model, which may (or may not) improve the cutlass, zombie boarding axe and our newest melee weapon... the clay tankard (used by the new drunkard class).

Over the next day or two, the staff here will be applying the patch to our own installs and our development server to test for any major issues. If the mod is stable on 1.50 with no other development needed, we will announce that here and ask that any server owners change their server names to include a small tag that states if the server is 1.50 compatible until everyone has updated. Stay tuned for more info...

The staff welcomes Takiwa to the crew!:

We were very fortunate to pick up a new skinning / modelling artist recently, and he's been very hard at work both retexturing some of the existing statics that we've already released, as well as creating a huge pile of goodies on his own. Takiwa had previously been helping the BGF mod team, and we are very excited to have him aboard.

Here's a sneak peek of some of his work on BFP2:

    Mapping Competition Update:

We have received more than 14 submissions for the recent Mapping Competition, and there are definitely some keepers in the mix. Many of the public submissions can be seen in the Forum under the Community Mapping Project subforum. We were fortunate to receive some maps from developers from other mod teams, including Rhino [Project Reality], Junglist [Eve of Destruction] and mschoeldgen [Xww2]. And of course a few familiar faces from our community also made contributions, such as Elander, Dumptrailer2, GeneralViper405, etc.

The Pirates staff is now reviewing all of the maps and making some minor edits that are needed to make the maps fully compatible with our latest build. We will trim down the number of maps, so expect to see between 8-10 new maps in the next map patch. There are new open water ship fighting maps, maps designed for air combat, smaller urban CQB maps (CS:S style maps) and a few new surprises from the Staff. The winning submission will be decided by you all in an upcoming future Poll.

    Other News:

Many of the older R1 and R2 maps will be given a facelift using new props and statics from Takiwa. If you have any suggestions on things you'd like to see changed on any existing map - nows the time to submit your ideas!

Our Community Staff has grown recently, and they are planning on organizing an 5v5 tournament soon. Stay tuned for sign-ups and other information.
