Boy Dies After Imitating Swan Dive In WWE SmackDown vs. Raw

A 9 year old boy dies after making a plastic parachute and jumping off of his roof from 13 stories. Reports indicate that he was trying to imitate a move from THQ's Smack Down vs Raw 2009. Read More:

A friend says a 9-year-old New York City boy might have been imitating a video game character when he apparently made a plastic parachute and jumped to his death from his apartment building's roof.

Police say Domori Miles likely cobbled a plastic bag and rope together before flying off the 13-story Brooklyn building Tuesday. The items were found on the ground near his body.

Ten-year-old friend Shakar Murrel says Domori was a fan of the wrestling game "WWE SmackDown vs. Raw" and loved wrestler Jeff Hardy's swan dives.

Stamford, Conn.-based World Wrestling Entertainment expresses sympathy but calls for "a full investigation ... before conclusions are made." It says no "SmackDown vs. Raw" characters jump off buildings or use parachutes.

Domori's mother tells police she had gone to the store.

While this is tragic news, the WWE is correct when they say no one jumps off buildings with parachutes in their game.

I think he was just an idiot. At 9, he should have the cognitive capacity to understand that falling from that height is bad. On TV and in the game, they jump from what, 4 feet off of the ground? Why is the game even being mentioned? Someone has an agenda.
When my 4-year-old told me she wanted to fly, I told her to take off from the ground. She asked me, "why?" I said, "Have you ever seen a bird climb onto the roof for a boost to take off? Or into a tree? When we went up the elevator in Chicago, were there any birds in there hitching a ride?" Even my 4-year-old figured it out. No, birds don't have to get a boost and jump from things to fly. They take off from the ****ing ground.

Well, in that case it was either jump or slit his wrists...

Sadly ironic that this news comes the day after Dairuka's article:

              ..

Kids have been hurting themselves for decades, imitating things on radio/tv/movies/music/games. When the old black & white Superman shows were on in the 50's, kids were jumping off of roofs. Young kids are impressionable and their imaginations are very powerful...once again, it's up to parents to explain the difference between reality and fantasy. Even when I stopped watching WWE yrs ago, they had warnings by the wrestlers themselves telling kids not to try any of these stunts and moves at home.

And since when is it OK to leave a 9 yr old child at home alone unattended? Sad that once again, tragedies like this are immediately attempted to be tied to gaming.

Dont forget about the three stooges. Those guys probably caused more hospital visits than all games combined.

I showed this story to my SGM, a 50-year-old career soldier, to get the reaction of another generation. Here are his responses, in order:
                  1: Why was a 9-year-old home alone?
2: Did no one ever tell him our parachutes aren't made of plastic?
3: Why did he have access to the roof of a 13-story building?
4: Why are they talking about a f**king Nintendo game?
5: At least this idiot won't be around to make more idiots.

And again, when my kid thinks she can fly, she takes off from the ground first.
