JD has announced a whole week of double-XP on Call of Duty: World at War to help celebrate the launch of the v1.4 patch/DLC. Listen up:

Just a heads-up, we've just turned on Double-XP MP to celebrate the release of Map Pack 1. Be sure to log in and Prestige now that you have 7 solid days of 2x XP!

Nah, dont care about these things with double the score, but fun for them who do.
I did prestige to lvl 7 but im only using Gewehr, and i like to keep my Telescopic sight on it.
But nice to see the PC getting this for once.

How do they control this?

Probably through the Activision Master Servers, I suspect (the one you have to log into when you start up CODWW, and the same ones that show the server list in the in-game browser).

I don't know exactly how it works, but either the client PC or the individual ranked servers out there have to report in to the Master Servers, and it's probably a fairly simple procedure to make any XP event come up as worth double the pts.

Are there not a ton of servers out there already doing like 10x EXP? Or did they fix that in the last patch and it has just been a while since I tried to find a legit populated server?

Most of the super-XP servers disappeared with the v1.2 patch awhile back.

Could you powerlever on a 1.0 server then patch to 1.2, or will the mpdata be erased?

I don't think the mpdata file is ever purposely erased (only sometimes if the game crashes), so theoretically, yes, you could rank up on the v1.1 servers (remember, there was a Day-1 patch released), then patch up to the latest update you wanted.
