Mother Hooked on Grand Theft Auto is Stabbed by Husband

A mother of three was stabbed to death by her husband earlier this week. The 62-year old man, Malcolm Palmer, brandished two knives and stabbed Carol Cannom (46) after she stayed up all night playing Grand Theft Auto on their PlayStation.

The problems began when the couple picked up the console for their 10-year old son, James. After James played the system until midnight most nights, Ms. Cannom would then hop on and would often stay up as late as five or six in the morning playing. The issue came to a head when Palmer was forced to sleep on the sofa after Cannom brought their 37-inch television into the bedroom in order to play all night.

These late night sessions led to Palmer becoming more and more unhappy with the amount of time the couple spent together. He went into a "violent rage" and accused her of having an affair, a move that prompted Cannom to request that he leave the house.

That evening he attacked her with two knives, inflicting 20 separate wounds to her upper chest. The murder was overhead by their son James, who called 999 before Palmer grabbed the phone and told emergency operators: "I'm sorry. I think I've killed her."

Palmer's lawyer tried the unnecessary but obvious defense of blaming the PlayStation as the spark that set this entire series of events in motion.

Defence lawyer Timothy Spencer QC told the court: "The genesis of this tragedy bizarrely lies with the purchase of the PlayStation."

Ever have one of those, "oh ****, did i actually just do that" moments? I can't even imagine what this guy must be going through. 20 unique stab wounds is indicative of some sort of temporary insanity. If there had been any forethought it would have been much neater. I'll be he gets away on manslaughter.

Holy crap, how insane are you when you could stab the women who you "love" 20 times. Man, the gaming industry is never going to get a good reputation if crazy things like this happens. And of all games "GTA" has to be in the middle of this.

There was clearly something wrong with Malcolm Palmer during his childhood up to his old age. Something was done improperly by his parents and could also have been the after affects of hanging around bad influences during his life which has caused him to to become a twisted man. Properly cared for children and adults that make the right decissions when possible in life don't turn out like this :).

Another case for video game sceptics to use to get games banned! That guy is pretty sick, but I would be pretty pee'd off if I had to put up with sleeping on the couch cause my wife is playing GTA.

The irony of the situation is pretty thick. In GTA you can stab people to death senselessly. Its ironic he would choose his wife's weapon of choice for the murder.
