Re: GDC: Send Us Your Battlefield Bad Company 2 & Battlefield 1943 Questions

1943

1. Given the huge popularity of 1942 and the die hard fan base still in existence, why was 1943 decided to be a smaller dumbed down version with new pretty graphics? Would it not have made more sense to do a true port and charge full game price?

2. The Sims games were very successful at creating a base game and then selling additions to it in order to get the full experience. 1943 seems to be set up to go a similar path with a focus on a "Pacific" release to start. Is the plan to draw this game out and release each Theatre of War as a stand alone piece? If that is beyond your ability to answer, can you speculate if there are plans for "additions" to 1943?

3. Can Frostbite handle moving large objects such as ships?

4. Previously it was mentioned that Heroes and 1943 are geared towards the "casual" gamer. However when you look at the games out there with player numbers that blow the mind such as WOW, CS, COD, etc... none of them are geared toward casual gamers but rather focus on a more in depth product. Why does Dice feel that targeting such a small group of the market as the "casual" gamer is a good return on investment when they could instead shoot for the stars and get back into the larger market where the real money is to be made?

5. Rumor is that mod support is dead and future games such as 1943 and BC:2 will not be mod friendly. Is there any truth to this or is the mod community important to Dice?

Thank you for your time.

Re: GDC: Send Us Your Battlefield Bad Company 2 & Battlefield 1943 Questions

What kind of damage system will BC2 have compared to BF2/BC1?

There were a few maps in BC1 I consider to be awesome is there any possibility of re-releasing these maps in BC2?

The sound in BC1 is amazing is there any plan to improve upon that in BC2?

There will most likely be unlocks in BC2 is there any chance of some kind of unlock weapon modding system? For example something like America's Army gun modding except you have to unlock different gun modifications.
(This might relate more to future games, but I am curious.)

These questions are for both.
What will the PC versions have in comparison to the console versions?
How graphically different will the games be on the PC versions?
Are there any plans on having expansions/booster packs/whatever in the future?

I will update if I think of anything else. Keep up with the great questions guys.

For both Bad Company 2 and BF1943

1) Will there be a server browser on the PC or just match making with a "play now" button?

2) Will there be proper widescreen support on the PC (see slightly more to the sides instead of having the top and bottom of the image cropped).

Re: GDC: Send Us Your Battlefield Bad Company 2 & Battlefield 1943 Questions

All questions are for BFBC2 unless otherwise stated.

Dedicated servers or auto-match-making for BFBC2 and B1943?
Intergrated dedicated server browsers?

Dedicated servers prefered. Especially for the PC version. Auto match-making is very detrimental with regard to latency. I'm sure BF1943 already has auto match-making, can this be confirmed? What about BFBC2?

Will there be any differences between the PC and Console versions?
Player limits will probably be kept at 24 across all platforms so as not to
interfere with map designs and balance. Are any other differences expected?

What new features and mechanics (if any) will be implemented in BFBC2 to improve upon BFBC1?
Fully customizable classes or just different weapon choices per class?
How many classes and how do they complement each other with regard to team play?
Will the commo rose return?
How will the squad system work?
Which factions can we expect in multiplayer?
How many maps for multiplayer?
What range of pilotable vehicles can we expect?

Can the PC community expect a map/mod editor to be released?
Which would allow custom maps and mods to be played.
What type of rank system will be employed?
Will the rank system exclude custom maps and mods? If so, why was this decision taken?

Individually customizable weapons?

Re: GDC: Send Us Your Battlefield Bad Company 2 & Battlefield 1943 Questions

BC2 mainly:

How will the PC version be distributed? Download only from EA store or will it be available from stores, maybe even a platform like steam?

Is the PC version of either game developed side to side with the console version or is it developed for consoles and then ported over?

Will the player classes in BC2 be the same as in BC1, or will they have a more "old school" approach? Will the class system be the same on consoles as on PC?

Any thoughts about using the squad system used in Battlefield 2 or 2142 in your new games? One complaint about squads in Bad Company was that you couldn't really choose who you wanted to squad up with, often leaving you with a bunch of people doing their own thing.

Will there be proximity voice chat in BC2? (eg you can talk with anyone in the game that is close to you) If my memory serves me right this was tested in BF2, but never made it into the final game.

Re: GDC: Send Us Your Battlefield Bad Company 2 & Battlefield 1943 Questions

BC2:

- How will the multiplayer be? any changes from BC1? Will player limits per server be kept at 24?

- What about the Ranking/Unlock system? will it be like Bf2142 where you need to unlock frags, sprint etc?

- Will it be more destruction in BC2?

- What's new in BC2? And will the hypodermic be in it?

1943:

- Why did you choose to have unlimited ammo in 1943?

- And what about the teamplay? What actions you make towards making 1943 a game about teamwork?

For BC2

1. What will make the PC version of this game different from the console versions?

2. How can you ensure us Pc gamers that this will not be a console port?

This is maybe too late but for both games:

Does the frostbyte engine support any type of battlefield recorder? either server side or client side. This is needed for competitive leagues and also for catching cheaters etc.
