BattleForge Community Update - 11/02/09 3 BattleForge Tracks Available for Free

EA Phenomic today has released three of their upcoming game's soundtrack for BattleForge. Check it out:

Participants of the BattleForge beta know that the game is a delight for the eyes and the ears. Now, for your listening enjoyment, the MetalForge Bonus Trax Packs is available as a free download. The download contains three tracks, MetalForge, Viridia's Demise and Giantsbane, from the BattleForge soundtrack. Accompanying the release of the MetalForge Bonus Trax Packs is an orchestra trailer. The video clip provides a behind-the-scenes look at how this unique soundtrack was created. These standout songs are part of a soundtrack that is truly “one of a kind”

The soundtrack is the result of collaborative effort by EA Phenomic and Dynamedion. The task of creating a BattleForge soundtrack was daunting. Already from the start, it was apparent that the soundtrack was going to have to be ambitious to stand up to the visuals.

“As we saw the first screenshots from BattleForge, it was immediately clear that the music had to be top notch.” explains Tilman Sillescu of Dynamedion, “Big orchestra, big choir, lots of percussion. Right from the start, the music, and also the classic sound effects, should draw the players directly into the epic battle.”

The entire process, from the initial concepts, to the recording sessions with the orchestras and choirs, to implementation of the final product into the game, required about one year. The resulting audio experience is unique for each player. The music works interactively with the game; the makeup of the soundtrack reflects the cards in a player’s deck. Additionally, the soundtrack operates on a layer system which changes in intensity depending on the in-game situation.

“The special feature, which is one of a kind, is that when a player puts together a custom deck, they also generate their own soundtrack.” says Bastian Seelbach, the Audio Director for EA Phenomic, “For example, if a player takes a deck with only Fire cards, they hear only Fire tracks. If a few nature cards are added to the deck, a few songs from the Nature soundtrack are mixed in with the Fire tracks.”

Despite the magnitude of the project and the technical challenges faced, an unusually close collaborative effort between EA Phenomic and Dynamedion yielded a final product that is receiving rave reviews.

“It was a joy to have Dynamedion, which has more than a decade of experience producing soundtracks for the games industry.” says Bastian Seelbach, “The work with experienced composers and Tilman Sillescu worked out wonderfully and the result is a fantastic soundtrack.”
