EA Events Interviews Gordon Van Dyke, BF1943 Producer

EA Events, the official site keeping track of EA's festivities at this year's New York Comic-Con, has posted a quick interview with Gordon Van Dyke, the producer of Battlefield 1943: Pacific. Of course, it's an interview conducted by EA, so the questions mostly center around how absolutely awesome the game is. It's nice to hear what impressions people had after actually trying it out though.

The answers to the questions are all voice recordings, so you'll have to click through to hear each one until I muster up the energy to transcribe them for you.

Today, we caught up with Gordon VanDyke from DICE. He's been working hard on Battlefield 1943 Pacific, the first Battlefield experience to come to Xbox Live Arcade and The Playstation Network.

Q: What seems to excite battlefield fans and newcomers the most about Battlefield 1943 Pacific?

from that interview, the only real advances that I can hear are: Destructible environments, trees, fences, buildings etc can be blown up / driven over, its going to be cheap and its available on conceals, everything else apart from the new engine and gfx of course is pretty much the same or in points of the 24 max player limit worse?

Still fails to appeal to me what so ever tbh... If its free to play on the PC, I'll give it a go but if its not, I can't see myself even thinking of spending £5 on it...

if they had it at 20€ on stores then gave us free DLC i'd go run buying it.

but since thats not gonna happen, this will be the 1st pc BF game i'll pass.

i used to like DICE alot, but right now for me its just another multiplatform game developer.

The frostbite engine is ported from consoles to pc and with all that destruction and stuff, the 24 player limit might be as high it can get on pc.

Sorry for beeing such an arse, but 90% of the international community is complaining about this new game, even most of the totalbf members are taging this as crappy game to squeeze more money out of the BF franchaise delivering poor content and the total oposite of what the average battlefield player wants... so why do you guys ASK THE QUESTIONS THAT EA Wants to answer?

Why not asking about the lack of content, the lack of the main characteristics of the Battlefield games: masive online battles, decent ammount of vehicles, cutting edge graphics and a good mix between arcade and simulation.

Why allways trying to be "the good guys" when the ppl you "represent" (the battlefield community) wants to hear answers about the use of a pretty consolidated name such as Battlefield game in a crappy COD-like console port?

            I really dont get it.

And I insist, sorry for beeing such an arse with all of this, but this interviews sounds more like "good PR for EA" and nothing more.

EA was asking the questions, not TGN so of course they're going to make their game (EA publishes it) look good.

Yes.. I need to clarify my previous comment it sounds like Im blaming totalgamming, but no... just EA's PR managers ... I hate suits when they spread their practices on gaming communities, they suppose to "take care" of their costumers (the community) but they care more for their pockets... ahh the past was so much better than now.

Having EA interview them is almost as bias as having one of their own DICE employees interviewing themselves.

geh, hate these self-interview crap. It's just a reiteration of what they've already said. Which one has real people's opinions?

Its easy to tell why the series is being destroyed, listening to this interview. The guy answering questions obviously knows nothing about battlefield. Hes obsessed with how the game looks and not at all with what made BF great.

so why do you guys ASK THE QUESTIONS THAT EA Wants to answer?
Exactly. Where are the questions that people actually care about? Nobody gives a damn about the fluff pieces.

I can't believe they have totally forget PC Battlefield fans needs. PC gamers were people who made this franchise so popular at first place. Now we get this "casual" ported console crap only. This is absolutely opposite what we want! Without destroyable terrain this game got NOTHING new + downgraded player limit and ****ed up gameplay.

This how i feel personally. I'm Battlefield 1942 fan since DEMO WAKE. Still playing daily(mods) because there isn't any better one and it seems there never will be...

what some of you are not realizing is that BF 1943 is not at all meant to be a full blown game. It is a small fun to play game which is why it is a Playstation Network & Xbox Live Arcade game which means you cant goto the store and buy the box you have to get it digitally because its a small fun game. They just happen to be putting it out on PC as well.

I am really excited for this game and from listening to the interview most of what I didnt like about Bad Company they are fixing in BF 1943 and BFBC 2.
