PS3 Sales up 130% for Holiday Season

In a CNET article, a Sony VP stated that internal data points to an increase in holiday PS3 sales by a factor of 130% and 40% on the year.

Two thousand eight was a pivotal year for PlayStation with the best software line up in the industry, a dramatic expansion of PlayStation Network including the launches of the video delivery service and the beta of the PlayStation Home," Ian Jackson, vice president of sales for Sony Computer Entertainment America, said in a statement. "Early internal data points to an increase of more than 130 percent of PS3 hardware sales for the holiday season--since Black Friday--and we're also seeing a growth of nearly 40 percent in total PS3 hardware sales for the calendar year. We remain confident this momentum will continue into the new year."

In shaky economic times, an increase this dramatic shows the strength currently resting in the video game market.

Probably got something to do with the awesome deals they were doing : Resistance 2, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift and PES2009 all for the £299.99 which is the price of the console on its own.

Their sales were actually down in November, but were more than made up for in December. November 2007 was when the first cut the price on the 30GB, so there was some serious buying going on then.

sweet price cuts i have seen some awesome prices here in Bahrain too lol wiish we hadent got the PS3 on Aug2007 theres a lot of better deals and bundles right now, the one i got came with two sixaxis controllers and motorstorm and resistance1. but twas a tad pricey.
