ModDB 2008 Mod of the Year Awards - Nomination Time!

It's the beginning of a new year, and once again ModDB has kicked off their annual Mod of the Year Awards. Our favorite Battlefield 2 mods were strong contenders last year, with Forgotten Hope 2 taking 4th place and Project Reality taking 2nd in the Player's Choice awards for released mods.
Every year on ModDB, hobbyist, amateur and professional game artists and developers work together to produce some amazing content. While our community grows ever larger, the amount of outstanding indie games and mods also increases—many pushing the bar for quality higher and even introducing a few new ideas along the way. With 2008 in the bag, it's time to look back and choose your favorite mods and indie games that are part of the ModDB community. Welcome to the 7th Annual Mod of the Year Awards.

This year, in addition to grabbing a spot in ModDB's hall of fame, mods and indie games will be competing for over $8000 in prizes. We've teamed up with a whole lineup of sponsors providing tools and services that will help game artists and developers rise to new heights. Picking a winner from over 5000 possible candidates for best released mod, upcoming mod and indie game is not an easy feat. Every vote counts—indie game and mod teams can help their own cause by using the promotional tools provided and reminding all of their fans to vote for their creations.

Whether you're new to the community or a long time member, voting for your top choices of the year is easy. Both members and non-members of ModDB can vote by navigating to a mod or indie game's profile and clicking the vote button located just underneath the summary section (see below). Member votes are more valued so be sure to register if you want your voice to be heard! While your at it, have a look at some of the other mods on the site, there's an endless amount of free entertainment to be had on a variety of game engines, platforms and genres.

So head on over to ModDB, make sure you have an account, find your favorite mods, and submit your nominations! Let's hope we see lots of Battlefield mods in the Top 100 again when it's announced on January 17th.

It is my personal responsibility this time to ensure that Project Reality doesn't win over any other mod.

haha! I can't believe some one can dislike a mod so much to even say that, what did PR ever do to you? Did you spend like 3hrs downloading it to find it just wasn't for you and you go so upset for "wasting" 3hrs of download time just to find it wasn't your type of game you have wanted revenge ever since for the loss of thous 3hrs you have lost you have been looking for all kinds of ways to have revenge

Oh dear, you going to jump off a cliff if you fail and PR wins this year? Better not let PR win then I would hate it to mean that some one might die over it

I just hope you dont spend like $30 on a game or something you dont like because PR is free and your going nuts over it, just think what might happen if you spend your money on it it!

The Pirates2 crew wishes PR and FH2 the best of luck again this year! Go get em boys...

We were really honored last year to be amongst the five or so BF2 mods picked in the ModDB Top 100 contest last year... especially given how tiny our player base is/was by comparison. Most people simply cant imagine the amount of effort it takes to get a product out the door after knocking your head on your desk for years working on it. And working with the BF2 platform is all that much worse because we really only have each other to turn to for answers. I'll be voting for all you guys. <3

BTW - if anybody hasnt tried our open beta yet... it is carnage out there on the Pirates battlefield! Swing by our site at http://www.bfpirates.com to check out a freshly updated Media section, our forums for fresh ingame screens, our Stats pages to see who's on top, come get our soundtrack or even check out ingame footage on YouTube. Nobody knows better than us that the whole pirate genre thing is pretty cheesy... but this new R2 version is not to be missed if you think you're a true FPS warrior. And if you like us, give us a vote too.

No fighting, gentlemen...right now our goal should be to get a strong showing for Battlefield mods in the Top 100. After that, it's game on.

EDIT: also elxx, what might be an idea is if you provide a list of links to all the BF2 mods in the first post for voting for so the users can easily find them all :)

I can do a quick list for ya if you like

^^ brilliantly put, and it sums up the position of AIX as well...
last year was a good year for BF2 mods and although contests like this are (to me) all just a bit of fun, it really is the nicest feeling to have the community show that they appreciate the hard work that all the mod teams put into getting a mod out to the public.

                  best of luck everyone :)

Go for it. I was going to do that but decided to watch silly videos on YouTube instead.
