Sales Figures for CoD:WaW Worldwide

A lot of sales figures have been coming out from the UK for their all-platform sales, but what about the US? What about the world? On a site called VGChartz, they have sales figures of hardware and software for Japan, America, and 'others'. They also have their worldwide numbers. Now, this does not include the PC it seems, only consoles, but they have listed:

CoD:WaW Xbox 360 Total Worldwide Sales (#3 Worldwide for the week):
2,371,256

CoD:WaW PS3 Total Worldwide Sales (#10 Worldwide for the week):
1,318,364

That is 3,689,620 combined sales worldwide for the Xbox 360 and PS3 for CoD:WaW. That number does not even count the sales for the other platforms. That is quite a hefty number!

One thing to note, the other four games of the top 5 worldwide sales are all for the Nintendo Wii. Those are some massive sales numbers for the Wii games! Granted, they have been out much longer and their sales are finally calming down whereas, Call of Duty: World at War is this high up and it's only listed here for it's third week since release.

How do these sale figures relate to COD4? You can't possibly tell me WaW is selling more copies than COD4 has.

From Activision's reports, COD4 sold between 10 and 11 million copies total.

Right now, from the UK numbers, COD:WW is selling about 2x faster than COD4 did over the same time period last year. We don't know how fast it is selling in North America, but it's possible that it could be similar.

In terms of the total sales, COD:WW has an advantage over COD4, because it is available on more platforms (Wii, DS, PS2) than COD4 was, so that could also be boosting its numbers.

In the UK, it is currently beating the pace set by CoD4, not sure for the rest of the world. Now, I don't remember the exact amount CoD4 has sold (I'm sure people are still buying it), so I can't say there.

You have to remember, the CoD series was pretty big and popular, but it EXPLODED on the consoles with CoD4. SO, with that said, you now have many more people exposed to the CoD series who would then buy the next game in the series i.e. CoD:WaW. However, CoD has ALWAYS been WWII minus CoD4, so some people didn't buy CoD4 b/c of the modern warfare, just like how a lot of CoD4 fans are not buying CoD:WaW b/c it's WWII.

I think a lot of people came to these forums from a BF2 background or CoD4 is their first CoD4 game, so I hear complaints about this game being WWII etc, but a lot of my gamer buddies who have CoD/MoH backgrounds were very happy WWII was back. Some of them had no desire to even buy CoD4. I barely bought CoD4, but it kept me busy until another WWII CoD. :) Granted, I liked the CoD4 sp, but I wouldn't call it the best ever, or even very original, some people over-hype it. Most CoD SPs are usually about taking you along the train ride with pretty explosions on either side of you. All CoD's have had short, but intense and fun SP campaigns along with great MP's. I did not buy CoD3, as it was console only, so I can't say there, but all CoD's have pretty much followed the same underlying structure for gameplay and it obviously works, and sells well.
