CoD:WaW Continues to Dominate UK Sales

For the fourth consecutive week, Call of Duty: World at War is the #1 seller on all-platforms combined in the UK. Clearly, the UK is enjoying this game.

World at War has now sold 1 million units in the UK alone, a landmark which took Modern Warfare 8 weeks to reach.

The sales numbers vs. PC online MP numbers are interesting. Here's what game-monitor currently gives for people playing online MP right now on PC:

COD4 - 29 993
BF2 - 16 073
TF2 - 8 325
CODWW - 8 054

As an FYI - the ratio of TF2/BF2/COD4 has remained fairly constant over the last 9 months or so that I've been watching them...BF2 is usually 2x TF2, and COD4 is usually 2-2.5x BF2.

As Crunch asked, it's hard to say anything solid without global numbers. But if COD:WW is also selling well in North America, then it's interesting that the online MP numbers are lower than COD4. Some possible factors:

- One has to wonder if co-op/zombie gameplay is taking away from MP. I've actually seen this complaint on 2 clan forums that I visit...a lot of people are playing zombies, and others are unhappy that their MP servers are not as populated because of it.

- The numbers could heavily be tilted toward Console sales, especially with some of the negative word-of-mouth about COD:WW's problems on PC. This could imply good Console sales, but poorer PC sales, and resulting lower online MP numbers.

- Or this could be a phenomenon related to how deeply tied Europe (especially the UK) still is to WWII, and sales may not be as strong in North America.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming months, especially once the damn patch comes out that will hopefully address some of the issues upsetting some people, and allow custom content to be pushed out via http re-direct.

Thats a good point. I was on a server last night where one of the clan members gave the announcement that they were going to play zombie mode and would any other members like to join. About 12 clanmembers left right then and there.

I also know a few people that almost play co-op only. They just like the teamwork side of it.

I play Coop a lot, so thats probably a big factor. I know a few guys that play coop almost all the time.
