    EA Clarifies Ban Policies

A late breaking update from one of our previous news stories.

Recently, Apoc, the Command and Conquer series community manager, released a statement saying the previous post detailing how a ban from EA's official forums would disable access to all EA-account linked games was incorrect.

...The previous statement I made recently [Regarding the linking of forum and EA nucleus account bans] (that's being quoted on the blogs [News media sites such as Kotaku, Slashdot, etc.]) was inaccurate and a mistake on my part. I had a misunderstanding with regards to our new upcoming forums and website and never meant to infer that if we ban or suspend you on the forums, you would be banned in-game as well. This is not correct, my mistake, my bad.

If we suspend or ban you from the forums, that does not affect your in-game account and certainly it does not impact your in-game account for other games.

I apologize for the misunderstanding, but I hope everyone is able to see the greater good intent in that we are simply trying to keep the forums and in-game as friendly and fun environments as possible, just know that those two environments are treated seperately by myself, the mods, and especially our Customer Support team. =)

This correction comes on the heels of a series of vitriolic attacks on EA's customer service and forum administration policies by not only the gaming media but also the EA forum members and EA supporters. Many of the Command and Conquer official forum moderators also held Apoc's line, emphasizing the linked nature of accounts; EA staff have yet to comment about how this inference about account and forum bans was reached by Apoc and other members of the EA team.

Lets face it, this wasnt a "mistake" he said what he said at the time, and now they have withdrawn the statement because they put themselves in hot water.

Exactly. This was NO MISTAKE, but a RETRACTION.

EA is not our friend, friends. =)

They were going to do it, until they got such a negative response that they blamed a scapegoat....

Btw: Why does this page have 61 scripts that my Noscript is blocking, does TGN really need that many?

It's probably blocking a large number of vBulletin's AJAX scripts.

For all of its faults, this was likely just a misinterpretation, not actual EA policy that they retracted. Whenever they implement changes in terms of service, the one thing they do is send everything through legal. When I first heard this, it just didn't sound right, and I suspect that a decent 2nd year law major could probably poke enough holes in it to file a lawsuit.

The reason several moderators towed the line is probably because they were all either in a meeting, or received an email sent by their supervisor, and all got the same info (which was incorrect).

When you think about it, it makes very little sense for EA to have even thought about this policy, because that would mean less sales for their games - something they'd never go for. I believe this was just a goof by someone in the communication chain.
