Sad to see that some of you are amused by his addiction. Just some background info. His parents have been trying to help him for 2 years, this is not a new thing. Knowing this family I highly doubt that neglect is the reason for his addiction. The only difference between his gaming practices and mine (and possibly yours) is that I know when to stop, and that the relationships you develop online are shallow at best. His maturity level is typical of a 15 year old, they want what they want and they want it now. I just pray that it doesn't have tragic consequences.

Take care of one of your own my friends and if anyone does know where he is let him know that his parents aren't mad at him, they just want him home.

Yeah, the world is a mixed up place. Those that want to play games have to constantly defend them when things like this happen. its pretty tough.

Helping him for 2 years with a severe problem and they still have an Xbox in the house. Makes the temptation pretty hard. You cant ween someone off an addiction.

This is exactly what they were afraid of. They attempted to ween him off and then told him that he couldn't play anymore and that is why he left. People who don't play don't understand the call of the game. I am sure they initially saw it as innocent fun. He was home rather than running the streets and only saw the true issues when he went online. At 15 you don't see the dangers, everyone is nice, no one is going to hurt you and how bad can a person be if they love the same things you do?

Thats the thing, they should take $50 or a hammer to it.

When he comes back, he should learn withdrawl. He wont be punished, just never see another game until he is out of the house.

Anyway, it doesnt matter. He needs to come back.

I mean sure i feel for the parents (being a dad myself). I can't be sure what led up to this but why not give the kid some alternatives? Maybe using the Xbox as a reward system for doing chores until he's ready to play normally again. Maybe make him play the classic NES until he's ready for big boy games. At bedtime - yank the breaker outside and lock the breaker box. One thing is for sure - if he comes home - smash that ****ing xbox right in front of his face and say "so much for video games you little brat - now go dig me a pool".


But running away because the parents took the xbox? what a little snot. If he was my kid I would kick his butt when he came back. Give him another week and eventually one of his friends parents will find him living in their backyard and call his parents or the cops.

Can we blame the parents? Probably not - even the best parents can't predict how their children will react. Could they have done better? Maybe - but being a parent isn't a sure thing job. Blame the little brat of a kid who needs his *** beaten.

As always... If a kid gets addicted to a game the parents only have themselves to blame. Its up to the parents to look after their kid. I hate it when parents who screwed up try to blame something else.

I can't confirm the details but apparently they have found him and it is not good news. Brat or not he didn't deserve this. I am sure that his parents will consider themselves "bad parents" forever. I hope they find some peace.

Once again details are not confirmed and I hope that my information is incorrect. They found his bike in a ditch yesterday and according to friends of the family they tragically found him today. Peace to the family. This information has not been on the news yet.

Anything is possible of course, but I find it quite surprising that someone who is claiming to actually know the family happened to find their way to this particular forum to post about it.

As far as addictions go, some people are more prone to it than others, and there can be a wide variety of triggers. It often creeps up on people and takes hold before anyone knows it, and then is very hard to kick. Parenting isn't easy, and there's no manual to follow.

Just do a search on Brandon Crisp and it comes up with this gaming forum. As an I.T person it was the only thing that I could think of that might be of some help. And yes I do know the family as my daughters both went to school with him. I have been busy trying to get the information out there to as many people as possible, and especially in the gaming community where he spent most of his time. I was hoping that someone might have known him, and give ideas of where he may have decided to go. Barrie is a very small community and this is affecting us all. Especially those of us who have children the same age.
