Missing Teen is Call of Duty Player; Dad Blames Game

The father of a 15-year-old boy who has been missing for a week said that his son's disappearance was triggered by a family dispute over his video game play.
As reported by the Toronto Star, Brandon Crisp left home last Monday and hasn't been seen since. From the newspaper account:

"He left because we took his Xbox away," said Steve Crisp, Brandon's father. He says his son was losing sleep because he spent so much time playing Call of Duty, a World War II-themed shooting game. "This was his addiction."

...Although police have determined that he hasn't logged onto his Xbox since he left, they are still trying to track down anyone he might have met playing Call of Duty.

"My personal feeling is that he's met someone online through this game," said Steve. "As a parent, you fear the worst when you don't hear anything for seven days."

Brandon's parents had tried to limit his Xbox use, but it didn't work, prompting them to take the console away.

"(Kids) play these games and it becomes an addiction. It becomes their whole life," he said.

Anyone who has seen Brandon is asked to contact the Barrie Police Department at 705-725-7025 Barrie P.D. has more about the investigation on its website.

Gives a new meaning to a word "addiction"! Toronto is in Canada if I'm not mistaken so if he didin't catch a boat to the EU then its useless to track him from here! Good luck 2 those who live there tho!

Wow, that kid has got quite a future ahead of him... if he ever returns home.

Just imagine what he'd do if he ever has a girlfriend and she breaks up with him! LOL

seems a bit extreme to me, i know if my parents take comp privileges away i am annoyed but i wouldn’t run away for it.

God bless his soul and keep him safe.

You can't blame it all on the video games! It boils down to... Who let him stay up to play? Why does he not have any friends? etc etc

Maybe his parents should have been spending more time with him! There are so many possibilities here, maybe he was being Bullied in school, maybe his heart was broken by a girlfriend.

It's a sad, sad, situation, and all the best for him and his family!

I think the whole problem with game addictions is that the patents are not proving a fun and engaging alternative to it, for example, helping cut down a tree or something in the garden...if they just take his Xbox away its not going to solve anything just make him annoyed and some people cant think as rationally as others, like this kid.

Gaming is an addiction, I agree with that. Parents have the responsibility to limit that adiction. Its just like when TV was being called the addiction in the 80s/90s. Last I checked they owned the house, not the kid, and what happens in it is their responsability.

It is sad to see this occur, but this is what happens when you give your child everything with no limitations. When you take something away, they dont know how to handle it and since the rational part of their brain isnt developed, they make an extreme decision.

Hopefully when he gets cold/hungry he will come back. I am sure he is at a friends house playing Xbox with his friends account. Parenting isnt easy. There is a lot of tough decisions to make.
