BlizzCon '08 - StarCraft II is Now a Trilogy

Each race in StarCraft II is now set to star in their own title, effectively turning StarCraft II into a trilogy of separate titles.

The first game will focus on the Terran and will be entitled "Terrans: Wings of Liberty." The second title will center around the Zerg and will be called "Zerg: Heart of the Swarm." Finally, the last title will be "Protoss: Legacy of the Void."

Blizzard's Rob Pardo states that the second and third titles will be like expansion packs but the company wants them to feel like stand-alone products. As such, each game will have unique elements to contend with. For example, the Zerg title will have RPG-like elements, while the Protoss will have elements of diplomacy included. The Terran campaign will include a mini Protoss campaign.

The games will sport more cinematics and story elements when compared to the first title. The multiplayer will remain unchanged save for the fact that some title specific units will not be usable in MP.

Pardo states that the decision was made to split StarCraft II up into three parts because otherwise the game would either have to be scaled back or delayed considerably.
