Nope, that's totally incorrect. The numbers of players of COD4 on Console is staggering. The vast majority of the +10 million copies sold were on Xbox360, the DLC map pack on Console sold over 1 million units itself, and during the first months over 500,000 users were playing at any one time on XBL. On PC, we had a max of about 70,000 users online at any one time at the start, which dropped to 40-45,000 (still a great number) after the first few weeks. That puts Xbox360 users at roughtly 10x the number of PC users on COD4.

COD4 was a monster hit on Xbox360, and it's likely to follow a similar pattern with COD:WW. That's why the 360 is (rightly) the first in line for the Beta.

I stand corrected :) 10 times is shockingly high though, is it really that much? I honestly thought the pc version had more than that.

Before COD4, I'm sure the multiple was much, much lower. I don't know how well COD2 did on Consoles, as this wasn't a big issue back then and I wasn't paying attention to it at the time. PC may have still been higher back then.

A lot of this jump is due to both COD4 being a terrific game and because of the Next Gen Consoles+Analog stick now making FPS games very playable (not as good as PC but still playable at a high skill level) on Console. A huge number of families already have a Console in their home so it's just the matter of marketing/hype, and then the consumer buying the game. COD4 did a great job at it.

OMG! I am so mad right now !!!! these guys need to remember that pc gaming gave birth to all the dumbed down mini pc's {360, wii, ps3}. How about doing the one with the best playing experience and graphics first ??!!!??!!!!!!
there are so many cuss words flying around my head I would be baned in a heartbeat. this is craziness.... forget the horde of xbox noobs, cater to actual gamers not part-time gamers.

Wow...learn to have some patience. PC will get our beta soon enough, you just have to wait a little bit longer. :shakehead:

I have an XBOX beta key as well - fat lot of good it'll do me with no XBOX! I'm hoping a PC beta key shows up, as I have pre-ordered some time ago.

We'll find out more this week, but PC may not even need specific keys. There's a pretty good chance that this might be an open beta...maybe they'll put it on a specific website to start with (like the Nvidia PC map pack from COD4) but then it'll make its way to mirror sites quickly. A lot of long-time PC people have speculated on an open beta, and in my gut I feel that's probably the way it'll go as well. It's not gonna be like Crysis Wars where they need a key to unlock the game for a set period of time, so they may not even bother with any codes.

Again, we'll most likely find out the exact format this coming week.

Oh god no. Remember what happened with Yahoo! and the CoD4 demo? That was a disaster :shakehead:.

Hopefully they'll let Filefront, Fileplanet, etc. get hold of it first.

I don't see why not an open beta.

Crytek just did a free weekend of crysis wars. i think it would be good for cod WaW would do (imo) great if it was an open beta. so people can get a taste of what the game is like.

tbh i don't like this idea of closed beta's anyway. The only way closed beta would work right is if Only knowledgeable people play it. you don't know how many times i wanted to kill someone when i heard bad things about the crysis beta. and when its closed and those people spur crap on forums on how the beta sucks, that makes people that didnt have the chance to play the beta, not get their take on how the game REALLY is and wont buy/play it.

open beta will have more immature kids complain about something but most would probably benefit from playing it and probably will encourage them to go out and buy it

I don't mind whether it's open or not, it's coming out in like... a month and 1 day [14th November EU confirmed on Callofduty.com] so I'm not fussed :]

Yeah i heard the 360 beta is great, same appeal factor that COD4 Packed. If it comes out on PC then i cant wait for those gargantuan wait times on my free file planet account.
