Future BF Games May Incorporate Mirror's Edge's 'Physicality'

1UP has posted up a new article today with DICE senior producer Owen O'Brien and producer Tom Farrer and within the interview they discuss bringing some aspects of Mirror's Edge into future Battlefield games. Take a look:
As part of today's just-posted 1UP feature on the making of Mirror's Edge, we posed the question to DICE senior producer Owen O'Brien and producer Tom Farrer on whether they thought any of the movement ideas introduced in Mirror's Edge might make their way into a future Battlefield game.

"I'm not sure [about] wall-running, but certainly the others -- certainly the sense of physicality in the world: the running, jumping, vaulting, [and] sliding," said O'Brien. "I think, yeah, we will definitely try to incorporate them into future Battlefield games."

Farrer continued: "We've been working on this for a long time and playing it every day, feeling that kind of sense of first-person immersion. Especially when you're sitting there trying to figure out why something feels wrong and realizing her legs are behaving strangely, or that her neck doesn't feel quite right -- it's not usually things that occur to you when you're playing a first-person game. But now, going back and playing other first-person games, for me, there's a real sense of loss. Returning to the kind of floating camera, you sort of really lose that sense of being there. I think it would be very difficult for other titles -- whether they're titles within the studio or not -- to incorporate all of the kind of stuff we've done, because it's taken our team a huge amount of focus to be able to do it by just focusing on that one area. But I think there's a lot smaller aspects, smaller things, that could and should be incorporated into other titles. They make a big difference."

Although wall-running would be cool, glad to see they are considering adding more realistic movements into future games. Stay tuned for more!

    *sigh*
This saddens me. They just couldn't make it anymore unrealistic could they?

Let me see if I can find soldiers doing this with 70 - 100lbs of gear on.

You know this won't happen. BF3 and Mirror's Edge are based on completely different engines, it would be too much effort. At the most, there might be some melee, but that's it.

And in battlefield 2 you could hide using vegetation, no one would see you then!

But this did not work out did it

This would work really well for an Indochinawar based title, parcour having its roots there.

My impression from this article wasn't that they are considering adding in parkour to future Battlefield games, but that they are considering adding in more realistic movements and awareness to the in-game character's body. This could be things such as leaping over short walls for cover or maybe sliding under fences. Maybe it would be a more appropriate movement for soldiers such as actually being able to climb over a 6 foot wall. I don't really think this idea deserves a facepalm.

I agree with you 100% and that is how I read the article as well. I'm not really sure where people are getting that this would take away from realism... :|:

I wouldnt mind this at all. If you could mod it to fit different themes, why not. Imagine BF pirates with this!

Good move DICE, keep the Battlefield series what it is, screw the realism lovers.
