Call of Duty 6 Pushed to 2010

According to an article posted over on GameCyte, the next Call of Duty game will be released in 2010 now as opposed to the rumored 2009 before. Take a look:
At Activision Blizzard’s analyst day in Santa Monica, Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith just revealed that Call of Duty 6 is being developed by Infinity Ward for a 2010 release… and that the company has every intention to “monetize” the series’ newfound online popularity with both it and Call of Duty: World at War.

Though Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick had previously confirmed a new Call of Duty would appear in 2009, Griffith told attendees and online listeners that “for calendar year 2010, Infinity Ward is already at work on the next installment in the franchise.”

The announcement was bookended by discussions of the franchises’ potential for, shall we say… alternate revenue streams. “The average Call of Duty player has spent five full 24-hour days playing online,” Griffith proudly proclaimed, “and over time, we’ll find ways to increase the monetization of this opportunity.” Though Griffith did not provide details, he mentioned that Call of Duty 5 would begin this initiative by providing two forms of downloadable content — regular, and an all-new premium form of DLC he dubbed “Day 1 Advantage.”

We’ll try not to read too much into that name.

While Griffith made no mention of aliens or spaceships appearing in the next CoD, he did say that the success of the series has enabled the company to consider “new theaters, new plotlines,” and even “new gametypes.”

Stay tuned for more news on this future installment into the COD series.

I don't mind if they OFFER more content, but it better not be a required thing. I don't want Blizzard trying to do to CoD what happens with WoW. I'm not going to pay per month to play, or pay tons of extra money for random stuff that they game doesn't need.

I'm not one who expects free content either, it's nice, but if it comes, great, if not, I just want a good game by itself. Think how much money some people have spent playing WoW...

I remember hearing about 8 months ago how Blizzard wanted to combine the idea of WoW and CoD to have it where there would be massive online fps battles, continuous wars...please, do not make CoD: WoW, hmm, maybe CoD:WW or WaW is just trying to get us used to the W's, lol!

This news seems more like news for stockholders than for the gamers...:|:

I wanna see them take on the Battlefield world. I think they could make a hell of a good game.

they don't charge per month for it. But they would have to right for a server capable of doing that as Blizzard does? I'm not paying an exorbitant amount though. If so, I'll be moving on to another gaming series. I love CoD, but I do not want it to go that route. I've been playing it since the first one, but I have not been paying per month to play it since the beginning.

If this means something like paying a certain amount to buy "Gun X" on day 1, versus playing 100 hrs to unlock Gun X, then I'm fine with that. As long as it's not forced or required. If someone wants to pay extra money to do less work and maybe give themselves more success early on, I don't have a problem with that (as long as it's not a "superweapon" that you HAVE to pay to get).

I like the idea of the massive online battles that you could join up for with a fee, but again, as long as it's a choice, and you could still play the regular online game for free if you wanted.

Choice is good, IMO, and if they want to provide a premium experience for those people willing to shell out the cash, that's fine by me, as long as all users aren't forced to go that route.

                        i agree with whiskey

if these weapons can still be attained without paying (e.g. getting 500xp) then there's no worries.

if some kids parents want to fork out cash because the kid whines about the fact that he doesn't have enough guns and he doesn't want to earn them the normal way - so be it.

I assume this is the case as they say "day 1 advantage". That means you get a few guns per pay instead of waiting to earn them (without waiting - day 1)

Reading through the actual article on Gamecyte (Clicky) there was this nice tidbit about COD:WW...

Oh, and before I forget, (Activision Publishing CEO Mike) Griffith also dropped one additional detail about World at War: “There are three times the number of maps in this installation.”
...if he's comparing it to COD4, which shipped with 16 maps, CODWW is gonna have a very healthy number of maps at release. :)

48 maps? Not that I'd be complaining if there are that many maps, but it seems a bit unrealistic. :p

Putting stuff together from different articles, it sounds like each map may have 3 sizes (small, med, large) depending on infantry, vehicles, total players, etc. So maybe that's what the comment above meant...maybe 15-16 different maps or so, and each map having 3 sizes. ?
