Michael Phelps Receives Call of Duty: World at War

In some offbeat news today, CBS news recently interviewed Michael Phelps where during the interview, he received a copy of Call of Duty: World at War. Take a look:
And Rodriguez had a surprise for Phelps, a video game lover: Activision provided a copy of "Call of Duty 5," which isn't coming out until November. The company even named a character after him. A close friend tells The Early Show Phelps loves the game and would having the upcoming version early.

Not that he needs a free version. He's already being mentioned with the likes of sports icons such as Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan, and is likely to make tens of millions of dollars in endorsements, experts say.

Heh, funny thing is you can swim in CoD5 - I wonder if Phelps will be doing laps capturing flags from one side of the river to the other?

What he received is probably not a full working version. It's likely either a demo, or perhaps just a contained SP version. Let's remember that the "regular" news media often doesn't have their facts straight when it comes to games.

It's a great marketing/PR move - having probably the highest profile Olympic athlete from just a couple weeks ago as a fan of your game, and Activision is striking while the iron is hot.

lolololololol... Come on... They gave him a packed BETA. So he's gonna have to buy it anyway as he will have to patch it to v1.0 when it's done then (with it being an Activision internal patch) he won't be able to find the patch come reinstall in a year or so lol. I guess it's the thought that counts.

EDIT: lol just watched the vid. It's PS3, so it's doubtable he will be able to ever patch it to 1.0 :P unless PS3 finished early ofc.

                  This from JD at callofduty.com
No no, the game isn't done - I am about to post a blog about this. There was an I O U card inside the box =P. We'll be sending him a copy when it's fresh off the production line. The game is very much so still in development guys.

Sorry for the confusion. But pretty sweet we could give an american hero a gift like that =).

Whiskey is correct, great advertising! But, it's all good, he deserves a free copy of the game and 10x more than just a game, which he will receive lol! Or maybe 1000000x more...
