Punkbuster Update to Tackle Macros/Hotkeys

As of 08.18.2008, Punkbuster released a server side update aimed at tackling Macros/hotkeys. It will be flexible to give admins some decisions on how it works. Here is what they had to say:

Version 1.683 of the PB Server for BF2 has been released to our PB Master Servers for auto-update and to our website download page.

Release Notes for PB Server v1.683:

The setting pb_sv_restrictions will now accept a value of 2 for cases where a server admin wants PunkBuster to be more restrictive with regard to certain macro or hot key type programs; pb_sv_restrictions will continue to default to the value of 1; admins who want to enforce the additional restrictions must configure "pb_sv_restrictions 2" either at the command line or in the pbsvuser.cfg configuration file in the server's pb folder

We are interested in hearing feedback from both players and server owners on the effectiveness of this update.

It would be pretty good if, when the new 1.50 patch comes that there was something in the server menu select screen that tells you if a server is running this update, just like it tells you about FF-on or off and about infantry only or not, all before you even join.

For some reason on Game Create servers from Game Arena which the Austrlian ladder runs off acts differently to other servers with this setting and has caused many people with G15's problems. Yeah yeah they have macro buttons but it's actually the LCD monitor that is causing the kick not the macro buttons.

Some of my members have had to uninstall their keyboard software completely to be able to play whilst others have just had to close the process "lcdmon.exe".

Really strange tbh.

EDIT: I'm talking about 2142 which this new setting is also in.

They should only have to close the Keyboard Profiler. I know that I can be in game fine with my LCD screen still working.

Too bad G15 macros aren't AHK macros.

And I've been playing with my multiple macros daily for the last 2 weeks and haven't noticed any kicks for anything out of the ordinary.

I win. Punkbuster loses.

So your a cheat with no skill, you lose for being handicapped with loser motor functions that you cant co-ordinate you stumpy litttle fingers you have to rely on a macro. :salute:

I use G15 macro 's to take Xfire screenshots, videos and bring up the menu. Also use it to bring up my FPS or hide my HUD for screenshots. Wouldn't know how it could help me at killing other people...

Don't get excited, I doubt anyone knew about the update to even change the settings. Good, sick of the macro kiddies anyway, still fun owning them though.:thumbsup::yay:

Did some testing on one of our servers last night with the new restriction setting. I have the G15v2, I must have sat in the server for about a total of three hours without a single kick or warning.

I only use one G-Key on my keyboard, and thats to adjust my default latency compensation in the drop down console. So dont think that people only have the G15 for an advantage in-game.

Guys is this working or is it total hot air ? I have not seen anyone kicked for a new violation at all .
