Akuma was long since rumored to appear in the console versions of Street Fighter IV when it's released, but some lucky Arcade players in Japan can already experience him for themselves.
Akuma, a long time fan-favorite in the series, will occasionally pop up and challenge the player if the player is doing exceptionally well against the CPU.
There's no announced release date yet for the console and PC versions of Street Fighter IV.

While it's a neat surprise for a game that's already been out for a month in Japanese arcades, the bad news is that it seems gamers won't be playing as him just yet. According to Game|Life, Akuma will only appear as a boss, and he'll only challenge players who are doing extremely well against the CPU -- the idea being to force them to lose and put in more money to continue. Hey, what do you expect? The dude's pure evil.
Whether Akuma will eventually become playable in arcades (perhaps through some sort of time-release) remains to be seen, but you can pretty much set in stone that he'll be playable whenever Street Fighter 4 eventually hits the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
And if the player should happen to beat Akuma at his own game, does the arcade unit simply blow up?
