Total Call of Duty's Exclusive Preview of World at War

As mentioned in this thread, Total Call of Duty recently got the chance to visit Treyarch Studios out in Santa Monica, California to get an exclusive first look at Call of Duty: World at War. Now being back from the event, I have prepared a preview article that includes six pages worth of information on this upcoming COD. Here is the introduction to the article:
Being a big fan of the Call of Duty series, I was overjoyed to hear that I would have the opportunity to be one of the first people to see the recently announced Call of Duty: World at War. While there were many pessimistic comments among the community about Treyarch bringing the game back to WWII, I welcomed the idea of another WWII Call of Duty and had an open mind towards it. Not only is it WWII, it’s a campaign of the war that is rarely seen in games. Although I was eager to see it, one can’t help but to think how this new entry into the series could possibly live up to what Call of Duty 4 has done. COD4 completely revamped the modern warfare genre and created an addicting game that players came back to time after time (including me). Will World at War just be all hype and not live up to the game we all hoped and dreamed for?

Let me tell you this right away, believe the hype and get excited. Based on what we were shown, the game not only lives up to the standard that Call of Duty 4 created, it improves on it. With that being said, there is a ton to talk about regarding my visit to Treyarch Studios. Before we jump into the juicy game details, however, I want to take a brief moment to share a very intense experience I was able to have thanks to retired US Army Lt. Colonel Hank Keirsey. You better believe it wasn’t all play out there in California.

So be sure to check out the entire article found here to get all the juicy details on World at War. I hope you guys enjoy the preview and please feel free to post anymore questions you have about the game in this thread and I will try and answer them as best as I can. For any other information I may have missed in my preview, you can also check previews from these sites: Planet Call of Duty, FPSAdmin, Sparky's Corner, TeamXbox, and ModsOnline.

I just read Rudedog's and Sparks's reviews, so I'll have to read your review and Matt's review tomorrow (it's 4:20 am here).

Wow, Spawn, incredible review! Very in-depth, specific, and down to earth, and extremely easy to read. Definitely a 10/10 for me!

As for the game itself, allow me to quote one of my favorite movies to describe how I feel about it...

(yes I know the quote is 9.5, but that just didn't seem to do the game justice)...

This game is going to be incredible, and I am extremely excited about the level of commitment the community has seen so far from the developers and everyone at Treyarch... if the first few weeks are any indication, this game is going to be great!

Re: Total Call of Duty's Exclusive Preview of World at War

Excellent job, Spawn. Very detailed in all aspects, with some of the fun behind-the-scenes stuff thrown in too. Nicely done. :)

            My fav section below:

The last presentation of the day was from Multiplayer Design Director David Vonderhaar. We started out being able to ask questions regarding the multiplayer aspect of World at War. First off, there will be perks. Some of them may include the popular ones from COD4 but there will also be new ones. Ranks and prestige will also make a come back in CoD:WW and prestige may even be featured in the PC version this time. As far as vehicles go, there will be large maps geared towards vehicles and small maps for infantry only. There will also be an option to turn off the vehicles in any map. With that being said, you will indeed be able to customize your server anyway you see fit, mixing vehicles and no vehicles. As most probably assumed, the vehicles will not include planes but rather tanks and other smaller ground vehicles. As far as the ratio of Pacific maps to European maps in MP, the number is not currently set but there will be a fair number of both upon release.

One new feature Dave wanted to highlight was that World at War will have squads. Many times people play with their friends in game but it’s hard to always stay together because everyone looks the same on the mini-map. Well the squad feature will include the options to be open to anyone or they can be invite only. They also will feature a respawning system but it won’t just be placing a beacon anywhere and that’s where your squad spawns. Many times areas get overrun fast and you don’t want your squad to be spawning in an enemy hotspot so the system understands that. I’m sure many gamers will appreciate the squads and having it easier to stay with friends in game.

After seeing a European MP map for a bit, which also included seeing the weapon customization menu briefly, we were taken to the other side of the studio where we were in the tester area. We got to see a lengthy round of MP going on and I was happy with what I saw. From watching the testers play, the game felt a lot like Call of Duty 4 which is by no means a bad thing. I only wish I could have got my hands on some play time!

According to a CVG article, they said:

Treyarch are promising great things, but they're keeping schtum about them for now. Rumour is that you'll be able to use the LVT - an amphibious transport vehicle - to sneak up on people from the water.
But also I just read an interview over on Videogamer and a dev says this:

VideoGamer.com: Are the vehicles team related, like being more effective manning a gun on a tank for example?

NH: Absolutely. We feel that the team gameplay is a great thing to support. There will also be LVT vehicles for instance that go through the water. Water and fire on maps will be a new feature of multiplayer and we'll see how that plays out. We don't add to great multiplayer lightly but the team is really passionate about it.
So we will be seeing boats of some kind.

Co-op and squads sound pretty good. This preview definitely gave me some hype.

First, wow...This game sounds like (hopefully) will be what WWII fans have been dreaming of and wanting! It keeps sounding better and better.

Also, I love getting hyped for games and reading previews and such, so I've ready too many before lol. But with that, very good preview Spawn. You covered the essentials while at the same time being detailed. Great job, glad you got to have an amazing experience!

EDIT: Also, this sounds like CoDUO but even better! And tons of people loved that game which was also, not made by IW. I'm not slamming IW, I'm just saying I'm looking forward to Treyarch's game.
