World at War Needs to Redefine WWII Genre

Computer and Video Games has recently posted up a brief article with Call of Duty: World at War Senior Producer Noah Heller discussing how important this next COD game is. Take a look:
We brought you first details on the new Call of Duty game last week. Since then there's been a lot of talk about how the game's return to WWII after Modern Warfare is a bad move. Senior producer Noah Heller says Call of Duty: World at War has to redefine the genre and be the best shooter possible or people won't trust the brand going forward.

"Modern Warfare opened the door to so many people new to Call of Duty," senior producer Noah Heller told MCV.

"The game built great fertile ground for us to start on and if we're going to say: 'Look it's Christmas, here's another Call of Duty as you loved it last year', then we need to make sure the game is high quality or people won't trust what Call of Duty is."

Heller added, "This has to be the best shooter and has to redefine the World War II genre."

So it looks like we could be in for new COD titles every year, starting this November or December (or last year counting Modern Warfare). World at War is due in time for Christmas on PS3, 360, PC and Wii, says the UK trade paper.

Be sure to stay glued to Total Call of Duty for all the latest on World at War!

Sveet! I'm looking forward to this one and I hope they do produce a great shooter. It seems like they have everything going well for them, hopefully they execute it well. And it will be nice not having to wait a very long time for it either. :)

Sounds REALLY promising... if Treyarch/InfinityWard keep swapping off, then each developer will be working on their next game while the other is releasing their most recent, and it'll be a cycle through which we'll get a bunch of games in the CoD series in a very short amount of time.

My only concern is, is this too fast? Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited for CoD:WW, but it's planned to be released no more than about 14 months after CoD4, and if past and current sales/activity are any indication (see Fourzerotwo's Blog, on which CoD4 has been the top game on XBOX Live for ages), would it be bad for the "Call of Duty" name to bring out a new, "redefining," game so soon after the success of CoD4?
