Ladies and gentlemen, I'm proud to introduce you to one of the news maps that will be inluded in the next release of the AirMAPS mod!
Seven Mountains (which final name has not been decided yet) will be an exclusively dogfight map, a really big one, made for aircrafts for the most of it but also humans in its center. Indeed, not only will there be hills, mountains, craters and cracks, the map will also include a vertical assault.
About the work done, the 3D thing is almost done, though some places may be flattened so as to ease the placement of some buildings. The texture thing is quite finished: the rock parts are done, as some fields and grass lands, but many empty places will have to be changed for some jungle. I'm done with the Terrain Editor, let's talk about the Level Editor :
The main control points have been planted, and I've already placed two airports (three take off lines and one landing line for each side). Three spaces of the vertical village have to be done which will be quite long since we want to do it in a fun and highly playable way. Placing farms in an apparently random way, with rocks, trees and other "natural" objects should take quite a long time though.
After that, I'll work on the triggers which are mainly birds flying. Then sounds! Why do you think that when you wald between trees some birds are heard ? Because we, mappers, want you to !
I won't talk about undergrowth (all those nice flowers…), the reflection that you see on the planes, weapons, and water. About water, I still have all that animation and light thing to do. After that I will have to face all the shut down when testing that make me think I'd better begin the map from scratch as I've already had to so many times.
But finally you'll be able to play the map in a beta release.
