Its pretty damn bad though. Look at this from this perspective- a decent company´s customer support would have contacted Richard, warned him, or asked him to reach a common ground. Its his real name, so this should raise a flag. At the worst, they should have changed his username and posted him his new user ID details.

But instead, they just used the erase button. Sounds cold, and stupid. Cant believe people actually do this sh!t.

Whoever owns an Xbox, can you chip in and post viable solutions, say if MS did this to me? Change ISP and let your spouse/mate buy and register for everything? Would you need a new X360?

As i understand it, if you're gamertag gets banned, you can create a new one. all it means is that all of your progress Gamer Points wise will be stuck on the banned tag and to get the points on the new tag you'd have to play through all of those games again.
but as it seems that Xbox run a strict terms of use, then i doubt they would leave it over a long period of time to ban it, thus meaning he probably didn't have many GP's anyway.
also i dunno if it applies to banned tags but you can change your tag name too, at a small cost.

its just sad that microsoft didn't take another form of action such as warn him, let him change his name, or even just let it slide because its his last name. The BIGGEST reason i think they did that was to have an excuse to not to go and fix Vista. Thats my point.

I think its a bunch of crap...way to many people on the net in games in paticular have gone way to far with the PC "politically correct" garbage. Its the man's name for crying out loud. It reminds me of the fellow a few years ago who was taken to court by Micro$haft Corp. for using his "real" birth giving name to call his Business....Mike Rowe Software Inc. "mikerowesoft.com"....anyone remember that? Infringing copyright? This sounds like trademark and cybersquatting claims, not copyright
